1100GS bevel drive

My bike is a 1997 1100GS.30k miles. I've noticed slight side to side play in the rear wheel . Similar to what worn wheel bearings would feel like on an ordinary wheel.I've been advised that it could be the pivot bearings that hold the U/J. and not the bearing in the bevel box itself as this is a big bearing. As its a B.... of a job anyone any experience of the problem as I'm not convinced that the pivot bearing being worn would cause play in the wheel.

Try and see if theres any movement when your hands are at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions.If there is then its probably the wheel bearing in which case I heard you can get it shimmed up if its not too bad.If there isnt any movement then it sounds like its the pivot bearing or swing arm bearings.There not to hard to do.I had this problem with a K1100LT at 93000 miles but I rode it for another 15000 miles before I done them to sell.Im sure someone on this board knows a good workshop in your area to get it checked.
