Hi, I've only owned my GS 48 hours and already I want to change something. I have some 'fat bars' I'd like to fit (cr high bend, so with risers, about the same height). I'm sure I read that the standard bars are a 25mm tube (I think). The bike has BMW heated grips.

Questions, for the learned few......

I think my fat bars are 28.6 , so can you get 25mm to 28.6 bar risers ? (If they are 25mm standard)

Is it possible to fit the hot grips and switchgear to standard fat bars or twin wall bars etc ?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Rob.

Thanks Mark,
I think I may have to junk the BMW heated grips and go for some Oxford ones. As the wiring runs through the bars that may be an option.

dont know if this helps but the original bars are 22 or 7/8 the fat bars are mostly 28mm you will need a set of risers to conver from one to the other but there are loads on ebay.
obviously the fat bars taper down to standard 22 mm where the controls fit on the bike.
I am lucky as I have a set of Ricky bars and risers, but having had a look at them if you are in any way mechanicaly inclined its not difficult to make up a couple of inserts in the ends of the bars to allow fitment of original bmw heated grips. Its only a bit of tube inserted in the end threaded to screw into the bars and then internaly threaded to take bolt from the end weights, then the there is a cut out to allow the wires down the tube. Have a look at the standard bars its not that complicated.

I have renthal 22mm bars on my 1100,with standard heated grips,
I re routed the wiring around the "barkbusters" also fitted, the wiring is totally hidden ,
Oxford heated grips are shit! Every set I have fitted has failed ,due to control units packing up!
If you really want to fit the 28mm bars ,conversion risers are available, but be aware that the standard bars are quite wide and high already,so it might be a stretch to reach the aftermarket set.
Hope this makes sense:thumb2

Thanks for the help,
I've got a set of 22mm to 28mm risers earmarked for purchase on ebay. I figure that the CR highs with a twenty mm riser will be about the same height as standard. Acerbis rally pro hand guards, with the spoilers they do for them and then I'm done.

I can hear the whispers...............why bother ?

The answer........gives me somthing to focus on for a while, other than the daily grind of work. And they look cool.

Now what can I change next
