well as per usual i,ve left eveything till the last minute and decided to give the old heated grips a blast this morning(was a bit fresh)after a 15 mile ride my grips are barely warm?how long do they usually take to warm up?any electrical heated grips specialists about.tanks off, voltmeter ready, contact cleaner at hand all i need now is some fooooooker who knows what they,re doing STEPTOOOOOEEEE:D

......tanks off......

Well there's your first problem - they're not under there. Try the ends of the bars - the closer you get to the grips the hotter they'll feel :D

Seriously, though, all I can think is to check the voltage at the connectors - if it's lower than battery voltage it could be a dodgy switch. If it's the same as battery voltage (or close enough) I'd guess the heating elements are on their way out. But don't take my word for it.......

Mine (1150) warm up within 5 minutes at the most.

it's possible that you may have not switched them all the way on,

if you know the switch has two settings already then ignore this reply:hide

Excuse me for butting in here but I am new to the BMW thing and I noticed the switch for the grips on my 1100 goes both ways so to speak. I assume the mid position is off and you click one way for warm and the other for warmer. Is that correct?

yes one is half the other is full heat btw have you checked the fuze??

surely if its the fuse they would,nt work at all?maybe i had my grips on the least warmest setting

:blast :D
I tried some of those Oxford ones that velcro around the original grips, they were actually too hot after ten minutes  A little phat for my tiny hands though but they work a treat.

Mine decided not to work a couple of months ago, fiddled in fuse box, no sign of a "blown" fuse but changed it anyway and they then worked, no idea what I did?

Speaking of heated grips....

My '94 1100 doesn't have them but if I was to buy the BMW kit does anyone know if the loom already has the necessary connectors etc or would I have to buy other bits / have a load of faff?

ta (sorry about the hijackette!)

If I was you I would get Oxford Hot Grips. They will be far cheaper I bet and work just as well, if not better. I have them on all my other bikes and they work really well an have 4 temp settings. I have only had it up as high as 3 and that was in sub zero temps. 4 was just too hot!

+1 for Oxford Hotgrips - had them on my Bandit and they're far superior to the OE BM ones in terms of control and temperature range.

That all depends on which way around the switch is inserted into the facia :D

All necessary connections are in place on the main loom.

Your money your choice.

I've no experience of using oxford grips so can't offer an opinion. Except to say they look fecking awful fitted, wires sticking out everywhere.
