Heated grips

After reading another thread on heated grips i wondered if to fit aftermarket ones ? Or would i be better fitting proper Harley ones ?
Am sure last time i enquired proper ones would be over £500 quid for the dealer to do it.

Harley ones are good and from memory integrate into the dash display etc .
But you can get great grips such as these for much less

Cheers Martin i had seen you had bought some. Do you know if wiring goes through the handlebars or does it have to as that were the labour charges mount up. Although i dont suppose it matters if it looks neater.

Why do you own a Harley and having trouble finding a dealer ?

just make sure if going after market, you get the right diameter for a HD - many grips only come in 22mm to fit bikes like the Vstrom. 7/8 inches in imperial. Many HD are 1 inch and sometimes even bigger. Some HD are 22mm according to google.

Oxford do some 1" ones but they are the older design with separate controller. The wiring does not need to go inside the bars. You have a single wire to the controller on the bars and then a wire splits off to each grip.

Cheers i had not thought about that. Prob cheaper to buy some heated gloves for when needed.
Not that i ride in winter but sometimes its nice to have the option.

Doc Iwouldnt underestimate the times in spring and early summer where I pop my heated grips on. They are always there, yup I accept heated gloves are nice but will you have them on the bike all the time?

As my Christmas present from er indoors I went for Oxford Hot grips pro , not cheap at £199 , but the slim design suits me. I notice Micky found the small button tricky with wet mitts on, Ive been ok so far. They seem very warm and apparently have thermister control which is like a thermostat. All I can say is you switch them on and can leave them on, unlike my BMW ones where even on one dot I have to knock them off as they get too hot.

One valid point that Wessie makes is the bar size, Oxford list the max at 22 mm 7/8ths see below, so if your bars are 1” then they will not be suitable.

I would get heated grips Doc, you have an expensive motorbike why faff about with wires or batteries and chargers. Not for me personally.

True, I'll look into as it's due a service in May plus I haven't bought owt bike related in a while.
