1100gs heated grips

Cheers Steptoe, always told off for innacurate advice....:D "Ribbed" side down for hottest setting... on mine... if they are working......;)

PS Sherioushly folks, you can rig BMW grips on non HG bars with a drill and a grinder to save some cash. Also I had some good aftermarket grips on a recent short-term owned Honda and they were great. It's usually the wires/switch that are the vulnerable bit as they are exposed rather than "in" the bars a la BMW.

Its often a wire break in the grip that buggers it for the BMW 'eens.

Best set up for winter=HG's and muffs.

Your money your choice.

I've no experience of using oxford grips so can't offer an opinion. Except to say they look fecking awful fitted, wires sticking out everywhere.

The same has crossed my mind - I do prefer the integrated design of the BM grips.

BuMW I think it's going to be.... (and muffs for when it gets really cold - not because I'm a wuss honest - poor circulation in me paws  )

Speaking of heated grips....

My '94 1100 doesn't have them but if I was to buy the BMW kit does anyone know if the loom already has the necessary connectors etc or would I have to buy other bits / have a load of faff?

ta (sorry about the hijackette!)

Yes - I retro fitted BMW grips to mine - the wiring was all there but you should check your handle bars to make sure they have the wiring exit holes near the bar clamps. No holes = new handle bars needed, unless you fancy getting the black n decker onto your handle bars  Some bikes don't have the bars to allow the wires to be inserted.

I fitted BMW grips to my 850GS when I bought it new in 2000. As far as I can recall I had to change the bar ends, not the whole handlebars. As has been said, the connectors were already there.

The BMW grips on both my 850GS and 1100RS are not particularly warm; certainly not as good as the ones I had on a couple Ks I used to have. When the grips on my 850 fail to work it is usually one of the connectors on the back of the switch that has become unsoldered - must be the vibes.......

oxford vs bmw?i had oxfords fitted to my winter dr600-cracking bike,4 settings, had to turn them down to number 3 riding motorway 70mph no handguards -3 fooooking cold, although i have to admit palms were toasty hot but finger tips still felt it,id give them 9/10.has for the bm,s i,ll let you know after i,ve done a bit of fettling:thumb

Ta :thumb2

Ok - next hijack :augie

Which are better, the Oxford grips or the BMW ones?

bmw. oxford are clunky and tacky imo. I'm actually in the process of taking them off my r850r and putting a new set of stock ones on. too many messy wires on the oxfords. Grand for a bandit or other tat but not a bmr. Just my 2 1/2 P's worth
