Daft question, but I'm allowed the odd one.

Just sent the missus in to get a copy of my '98 1100GS key cut. The bloke says that he can't do it and that I'll need to talk to BMW.

I emailed my local BMW dealer and they tell me that the key has a chip in it so they'll need to send off for it.

A '98 bike with a chip in the key? Maybe she though I typoed and meant a 1200GS....

So what do I do - try a few more key cutters?

No chip in a 1150/1100GS key:blast.......................bullshit:rolleyes:

Best thing is to buy a blank (black rubber top) genuine BMW key from a BMW dealer/supplier and take the blank along with your original key to any key cutter and he'll cut you a new one

That's what I do:aidan

good plan, bat man....

I had mine done to a local shop, where they copy house keys and all other keys, I payed 3 eur for 1 copy.

Just go to a place where they copy car keys and they will do a copy for it.

Confirmed that if you find the right hardware shop that does key cutting, they'll sort you one :thumb

No problems here getting a key cut, in fact they even sorted out a BMW blank for me

She did point out that it was for a bike, all car ones are chipped from 96 ish onwards

Just had several at Timpson in Sainsbury done.
They had to order the blanks, and I had to chase them to find out if the blanks had arrived but keys cut quick and easy - even had buy two get second half price so £10.50 for the pair.

This for an F650GS 2001 so as long as you are on a standard non chipped blank I would guess yours would be the same.
