Well, my 1100GS has sat idle in the garage for the last 18 months. It was last cleaned in April 2009 prior to a trip to the Picos and Portugal. Currently showing just shy of 105,000 miles, I bought it 8 months old at 4,000 miles or thereabouts.

It was serviced a couple of years ago but I changed the oils this week and put it through an MOT and re-taxed it. BTW, it started first press:D

New tyres fitted too, a pair of Conti Trail Attacks.

It has now had a 'deep' clean and here it is, all done. The spokes on the front are a bit poor and there is some corrosion to the front engine cover, as they all do. But considering I used to use it every day all year round it's not too bad for what cost me £6.5k:aidan

PS. I know my fence needs preservative.

Nice.
When I decided I wanted a GS four years ago my budget would only stretch to an 1100. That was a stroke of luck:thumb

I ran an 1150RT with the GS for a while but the GS is the one, such a simple but accomplished bike.

Very Nice - congratulations. It might make you feel better to know that I just re-commissioned a '95 1100GS with only 20k miles that had lived all its life in corrosion-free California and my front spokes look at least as bad as yours even after a lot of polishing - the brake pad dust attacks things regardless of weather.....

Your bike looks better than mine in almost every way, and mine spent the last five years unused inside a garage under a cover.

Enjoy your 1100, they have qualities that are missing in all the later models.

Arizona (really corrosion-free, the average humidity is less than 15%...)

Nice job

Worth splashing out on a set of stainless brake lines to finish the job

My 99 1100 OEM lines ballooned just above the front mudguard Twas a lucky escape

They do break down internally with age

The Goodridge kit is an easy fit

Where's yours

Can we see your one.... Please...:thumby:

Wow, she's looking lovely, looks like 75th anniversary colours?! I'd be keen to know what you deep cleaned it with, I'm putting my 98 11 back together too:-)
Can't wait:thumby:

It is a 75th Anniversary model. I used lot's of Muc Off, Autosol and elbow grease:thumby:

dunnie - evidently I'm not senior enough (or something...) to attach a file. Imagine a large white whale without any tank graphics and two, big, Bosch driving lights on the front and you've got it.

All the best,

Bob Johnson

Wow, bike looks great - much better than mine

Your story is similar to mine: bought with 3,200 miles on clock 15 years ago for £6500, I've done 107,xxx now with a mixed bag of riding and standing over the years.

Funny I've been thinking of updating lately, but with a bit of research have decided to keep it :thumby:

I put a post on recently asking how many high milage 1100s were out there - not that many replied but I suspect there is more than a few. :beerjug:

Autosol Metal Polish and lots of elbow grease. To get to the part where the spoke enters the rim you need a blob of Autosol and a strip of cloth, wrap it around the spoke and kind of 'floss' the spoke with it. I've even used Wonder Wheels in the past but you need to be quick and don't blame me if they feck up:D

The Discs on the 1100's seem to never rust , what is that ? My 1100 was on it's original disc's , 1997 no rust , yet my 4 week old GSA has rust where the disc bolts to the wheel , and its summer !!:nenau
