My 1100GS… A year in the life and tribute to the old tractors...

First things first @Wrigsby1 The most likely culprit for damage / movement is the TPS

Also a possibility of the Pressure relief valve sticking (Old gooey Fuel??) and the Fuel pressure being too high

Period of Injection @?? PSI determines the fuel volume per stroke "BUT" they did not fit a Fuel pressure monitor So the ECU has no way to compensate for somewhere that there is an issue

e.g. kinked return line or a stuck PRV and inline fuel pressure guage should answer that for you, about 24 to 30 psi is roughly correct
Only cos I had these things on my 11GS's... There are obviously a load of things to check but people junked CCPs just like they fitted air temp fiddles for a while on 1150's and 12's...

@Wrigsby1

Old bean I have requested removal of the invasion of your thread

And it seem to have taken place

Have a good day Sir (Y)
Ha ha🤣 I'd sort of got used to the drift..
👍😆 And some of the probs you've obviously seen plenty of... As these bikes get older the fundamentals get messed with more and it's hard to get decades of collected knowledge downloaded onto the the Freshers...👍

Yeah and when the Mechanically Inept arrive and decide upon a path its hard to steer them back from the path!!

DAMN Hard!!

So the auld shonker has had a little rest while I sorted an FD replacement ... Servicing gave me silver flakes in the FD oil highlighting a big bearing wearing out... No leaks etc but feeling rough, aren't we all...😆
So including a bit of a tune n check and a proper FFS😳 at the corrosion a drier salty winter and general neglect can bring I've retro specced The Bus to a "missed opportunity" for BM in the day and made a Double Black edition... It usually happens to my 11s eventually and the lovingly prepared and applied satin black via rattle can effect can be achieved in under 30 mins wind speed and direction allowing...

I don't understand why there were only 3 colours + 2 semi specials during its 6 years run but glad they've learnt from their corporate mistakes...👍 As a side hustle I can recreate this on a bespoke basis but can't promise to hit all the right bits 1st (or 2nd) time...
All Hail the 11GS! The best one of course...😉

Here’s a genuine question
I’ve had the 1100 for 6 months ish
Love the bones of it
My brother in law said you love that why don’t you get a 1150
They’re way better
Are they?
If so how
Just really interested

I’ll tell him😂 to be fair he rides 3 1950s bmw r50 r25 and a 9rt
I think he’s of the mindset as mines a 94
And you can get 1150 into the 2000s
newer better
If I ever get a chance to ride one I will
Couldn’t be without the 1100
It just fits

When they came out they were better in several respects... They looked slightly more modern, the FI was smoother as an updated version and the had 6 gears, often with the extended 6th... As time's gone on and I've kept returning to the 11 I think....

The 11 look has aged better and TBH the clocks setup was always better...👍
The FI... Well the 1150s smoother but you can live fine with a well set up 11 and it's only slow speed running where you notice the most...
The high 6th was a passing phase... If you've had it for a while you'll change gear more on the 1150 and the jump down from OD 6th to 5th is a PIA .. Also with 5 from 50mph on you're always ready to go and still plenty of engine breaking...

I was a bike instructor at the time and had an 1150 demo out and wanted one but now I'm not bothered...
Lastly the suspension setup in more compliant...
1100s were the bike BMW built you and 1150s were the bike they thought you'd like to try and get buyers to crossover to them... Really the 11s were the last bikes built without that wish to cuddle the customer...

The 1150 GSA was nearer to the 1100’s than the 1150GS …in terms of gearing and performance
Ridden a 1150GS this week for 200 miles with the E overdrive and it’s shite

Yep totally... When I sold them I quickly realised the E 6th was a gimmick... The 1150 ADV with a low 1st box was the best of both worlds but I never got on with the bigger tank which I found uncomfortable and the single seat was a bit of a styling exercise... They floated along rough roads like a good 11 though and I remember the interest the concept brought in from non BMW riders... Obviously this was turboed by Ewan n Charlie's exploits and BM never looked back ..👍

Just injecting some Jeopardy into this thread, you know the sort of shit you read about in B&B threads about some scandalous politician or being invaded by Christian’s or religious types in rubber boats or something or other.

Here goes:
Hard parts are a complete waste of money, time effort and you will never need them …. Until you need them.
There, Ive said it now, medication taken, normality resumes.

That looks like off road use, something most GS's never see intentionally...🤣👍

Use mine every day
First bike in a long time I make excuses to use
