I just bought a 1995 1100gS with 140,000 km on it. The problem is that it is only running on the RHS cylinder. It has been sitting for about 2 years, but was in regular use before that. Other than that it appears to be in good nick.

I pulled the injectors, and both are spraying fuel like they should. I checked the throttle cables and they are seated properly. From there I expect the problem is no spark on the LHS.

Before I start on it, can anybody suggest the likely culprits to check?
Thanks, Phil

If you have spark on the other side, I am 100% sure it's the spark plug or the spark plug wire ;) Try switching the wires between and see if the problem moves to the other side ;)

Dan.

I started with the spark plug and HT lead on mine and it ended up being the coil. Try the trick of swapping HT's and if this is OK order a used coil from M/works or similar. Easy to replace and only a single unit for both cylinders. Situated near the headstock under the tank.

No need, the 1100 only has 1 sparks/cyl. If one side is fireing and the other is not then the coil is 100% ok. It sparks at both sides the same time, but it has an unused spark / cycle ;)

If you have a spark - firing at the right time, and the correct air/fuel mixture - squirted in at the right time, all that's left is compression. Can you check that? See if its the same for both cylinders?

We don't know about the spark yet...

Any update?

thanks for the replies.
I pulled the spark plugs out today. LHS on was fairly dirty, RHS was ok. I put the rhs plug on the left, cranked it over and got spark. Looking good. So I cleaned up both plugs with a wire brush. Spark both sides. All good. I will put new plugs in though. Spark + fuel = brrrmm I hope

I didnt try to start it because I noticed various sections of the wiring loom under the tank need retaping and a bit of a tidy up. I'll do that before I put the tank back on.
cheers, Phil

Ooooh, the suspense.........:D Go on start it up so we know....

Always worth checking the plugs for sparks straight away as it only takes a mo to work up the line to something more serious (tools under seat:thumb). Never have had a dud plug on a bike though in a few hundred K miles:confused:

Finally got time to put the tank back on and start it. All good :D ran perfectly on 2 cylinders like it should, and that was on the old plugs. I'll give it a good service now and go for a ride.. Phil

AT LAAARST!!

The suspense has been dereadfull now I can sleep again!!
Well done that man, we all get troubles like this but they are overcome now get out and thrash it!!.
Happy christmas,
Dave GS

Good o.... There is only one sensible explianation for this problem.... Not enough merciless thrashing..... Treat g/box with modicum of respect.... treat engine with none:D
