Hey everyone, this is my first post here, so hello from sunny Mexico. :beerjug:

I have a 1995 R110GS and my speedo stopped working. I took the old speedo hub off and the plastic gear was trashed so I bought a used one in good condition and a new cable.

But the speedo still won't work. I inspected the new (used) hub and it seems to work fine, both forwards and backwards. I took out the plastic gear and its not all chewed up or anything. But when I mount it to the wheel and spin the wheel, it doesn't work. It will work if I spin the front wheel backwards, but not forwards.

I can't see what the problem is. Any ideas?

Look at the metal drive washer with the two small lugs that engages the plastic dogs on the speedo drive they should be at a 90 deg angle to the washer if not they will will damage the plastic dogs and wont drive the speedo,
the washer is easily damaged when replacing the front wheel which causes the problem you should replace the washer and the drive otherwise you will get the same problem again.

Have you taken it for a test ride. I'm assuming that you know you have to spin the wheel really fast for it to register....

Just got back from a 500 mile round trip with no speedo, I'm pretty sure it's not working. May just have to get a new hub. I can't see what is causing the trouble.

Didn't want to insult your intellegence but some people probably would just turn it by hand to see if it registers.

Maybe use a drill on the drive cable (slowly at first) to see if it isn't the cable/display.
