The speedometer on my recently purchased 99 1100GS doesn't work. I've disconnected the cable at the axle to find two things: firstly, the drive peg rotates when the wheel is rotated, but the action appears notchy and the peg appears to be able to be stopped with finger pressure. Secondly, I spun the slotted end of the cable with a drill, in both directions and at low and high speed with no reaction from the speedo. Any thoughts or suggestions before I start dismantling things to get to the back of the speedo? Thanks

Nylon drive gear may have stripped its a remove the front axle and drop the drive out to examine it better (Wheel can stay in you just need to slip callipers off and pull the axle across a 1/3rd of the way

(N.B. use a tie strap between the centre stand lower bar and say the exhaust (cold obviously) to prevent accidental knocking forward off the stand

Pull the inner if its good you will get the whole length if as I suspect its broken you will maybe get 2 or 3 inches
