1100GS - Strange Electrical Problem

So I have two questions for the panel The first is, is there a good way to resolve this ignition barrel problem for the long term (ideas/aftermarket parts, etc)?

Durite do a range of aftermarket ignition switches (page is HERE)

I've got all their tech data sheets here if any of those look like a possibility

(and I can get them next day quite a bit cheaper than retail)

Bill are you going to the hograost - if I can make it maybe I can pick something up from you for the Rabbit and bring it back with me if that helps anyone. I am hoping to make it over this year.

Realised that I didn't mention that I've already had the tank off and had a look, not obvious damage

Thanks for pointing out those options, thinking about the problem i suspect that none of those will actually solve my problem as the problem seems to be caused by the way the cable exits the back of the ignition barrel rather than the barrel itself, probably I'll just resolder it all up again and see how long it lasts again

had similar problem with my 1100gs last year, stripped the wiring on the bottom of the barrel, one of the wires was broke, i got another bit of equal strength wire, joined it in to give a bit more length/flex, taped it up never missed a beat since didnt cost a penny, just few hours of my time.

I was out yesterday again with the soldering iron, but as I had already repaired it once in situ with the soldering iron it seems no difficult to make a good job of it a second time.

i am thinking now that I will remove the ignition barrel and make a proper job of the soldering with it off the bike.

I've seen that motorworks sell the security screws for the barrel but they don't seem to sell the tool to put the new ones in.

Anyone know where I can buy one or a simply way of making one?

For reference, this is what I mean:

I asked my local dealer (BMW Brussels) about this before but they wouldn't sell me the genuine part as they said only they could do such a job for me (hence I don't seem to be able to order the BMW part from here)

Ok, managed to order all the parts from BMW Brussels this time (I don't know what changed but this time there was no problem)

Wish me luck, I'll try to fit all the new bits in a few days, cost for the connector, security screws and the tool to put in the screws, 100 Euros

New item fitted

I've just fitted the new barrel switch and am happy to note that the new part has a more flexible cable than the old one so hopefully it should last well
