Hi there, I need some advice of anyone who is familiar with the metal mounts for the optional fog lamps on the 150 ADV...

Here's the problem (as you've probably guessed, the fog lamp bracket has broken off and has been removed)...

This bolt is seized solid. Before I work out how to get it out, I need to know a couple of things:

Primarily, is the centre section threaded? If not, it would seem to be a matter of applying sufficient force to a wedge inserted into the gap at the end of the bolt. If so - well, I'm not too sure - any thoughts?

Mike

Buy yourself a tin of Würth Rost Off Ice.
Use as directed and be amazed.
Bit in the middle is not threaded - think about it...you couldn't tighten the nut if it was.

I have some in the garage but wanted a definitive answer on the threaded question first. I'm not convinced it's not threaded (if it's not then it's a VERY snug fit). The 'captive' nut can move up and down a track, which would allow both brackets to be tightened against - which might make sense...

Mike, was there a spare bracket in the box of bits that you could get apart easier?

Oh..... or is that it????

OK - the middle bit isn't threaded - but that's where it's seized. I've used Loctite Freeze & Free (or whatever it's called) twice to no avail.

Time for scotch...

Mike

Heat the casting with a hot air gun and then lever against the threaded end of the bolt with a large flat screwdriver.

Go with the heat. If you can put the bolt under load while heating, it will move on its own. Without any bashing or forcing.

It also means you won't overheat more than needed.
