1150 ADV Rough as arses after new battery

No need to find the junction box :D

And it's very easy to pop the cables back into place at the cassette/junction box.

Hold one of the throttle pulleys and twist the throttle open as hard as you can (obviously it won't turn), repeat on the other side - if they have been dislodged at the junction box you should feel the throttle cable snick back into place as you try the method i've posted .. You may need to try it more than once. And be very aggressive when doing it, snap it open and closed, not gentle.

Don't worry about the rubber caps not being in place as they aren't your problem.. if one or both of those are missing it'll just increase the idle slightly.

Love it!

Didn't I read somewhere about the injector wires breaking where they go into the connector on the injector? Or was it all a dream....

More good suggestions, thanks!

Yeah, definitely worth checking, although I did fire her up after I'd changed the plugs and before I pulled the tank off and she ran fine. One more thing to cross off the list though :thumb2

It almost definately won't be a coil. If the primary coil was to have failed by you just removing, then installing it, then the secondary coil would have compensated for it. The secondary fires almost all the time up to 60 degrees ATDC to eliminate high co2 emissions. There is always the chance that both primary and secondary have failed together at the same time, but quite frankly Gary Glitter has more chance of getting parole....

Robster, It sounds like an adjustment issue. If the bike is running rough with the fast idle off but throttle advanced then you have a problem that is not related to fast idle cable.

Did you check that both injectors are firing?

I agree it's not related to the fast idle cable, but the operation of the fast idle has shown up an anomaly. Given that the fast idle acts exactly like opening the throttle slightly, the movement of each side should be equal - that's the problem I'd investigate...

I don't disagree with you Mike, that's a reasonable approach too. It's hard to see how the throttle could move both throttles at the same time but the Fast Idle lever doesn't. He could also just shim the throttle plates open about 12/1000" (about 3 degrees) and see if the bike runs smoothly.

Dunno if it helps the OP, but my bike was idling rough and slow to drop revs on the way home just now. Bit of fiddling in the garage and I pulled a small stalk/twig out if the left throttle quadrant, seemed to be fouling the quadrant from seating properly against the stop screw. All seems well again. I guess that's what I get for parking under a tree on a breezy day...

I think the fast idle issue is possibly a red herring. Without fast idle engaged both throttle cams are seated on the stops and operating on the throttle according to the OP. The issue appears to have started when the tank was removed - bike was running fine prior to that. I'd be investigating the tank internals next. Keep us updated and good luck:thumby:

Don't know if it would affect running but what if the sensor that goes into the airbox got disturbed? Silly suggestion I expect.

Prob totally unconnected, but the bike in this video had similar problems? Ended up being a bad connector.

That's actually not a bad call - pretty much the same symptoms as I'm experiencing.

I have to confess I've thrown the towel in and have the bike booked in with Steptoe to do a little GS Whispering on Friday - I think if I poke around any more I'll do more harm than good. :blast

That said, I will check those injector wires tonight when I get home... I'm fairly convinced it's got to be something stupid like that!

Any update on this, interested to see what it finally turned out to be.

I'm keen to find out myself! If only to add to my huge list of "things to not do again"! :blast

It only went in to Steptoe this morning, so once he's located my stupid error I'll take one for the team and let you all know!

Bone handled bum stretcher at the ready waiting for the result :D

Electrical connection to the R/H fuel injector had become detached inside the connector.

dmac you are the winner! :clap

Just picked the bike up from Steptoe (thank you Sir :bow), and she's running nicely again.

I was so demoralised with the whole affair that I never went and checked that wiring on the right hand injector...and that's exactly what it was!

Ho Hum... lesson learned! :augie

I was just at Steptoe's when you picked it up - looks a beautifully mint bike. Glad you got it sorted.

Shot in the dark tbh, just had watched that video a few days before and when I read your symptoms thought they were similar. Great community here, its an asset!!!
