Probably covered before but I am thinking of spraying my R1150GS, and also want the bigger ADV tank. Will it fit straight on? If so, I can kill 2 birds with one stone and just buy a new tank. If so, where's the best place to get one? (apart from here...)

And does anyone have one to sell?

Hi,i'm going through the same changes at the moment.
Adventure tanks sometimes turn up on e-bay,but they start at£200 plus.
Steptoe is back on the 21st Nov.He may have something suitable.
I believe it is a straight swap-the 30 litre tank is just wider at the front.
Good luck,Col.

Hello mate,

As your thinking of having them painted give Jim Elderfield a pm as he has a couple of ADV tanks with very slight dents etc.

He would be pleased to relieve you of some cash as he has from me enough

Great, email me his number and email address and I get in touch.

Straight swap but most used Adventure tanks come without internals, leaving you two options:

1. Cheapest - use your existing 22 litre tank internals & fuel cap, relace the fuel filter whilst doing the swap. Downside of this is that the fuel gauge will not be linear and the low fuel light will come on very early, rectified by putting a bit of a bend in to the float arm to delay low fuel light activation. This mod itself means the gauge is even less linear. Mine now comes on with 4.5 litres remaining.

2. Expensive - buy a new float arm & sender & fit to new tank. Fuel light comes on at the right times & the gauge is linear. Downside is cost (£200???)

If you've not already got quick fuel disconnects, now's the time to fit them. In addition, you'll need the crossover fuel pipe to connect the left & right tank lobes. You'll also need a right angled quick fuel disconnect. Even better is to get two of them, fit one either end of the crossover pipe, making tank removal & re-fit even simpler.

While you're at it, drill out the fuel neck to increase capacity to 32 litres.

New painted tank, graphics, badges & internals = not much change from £1,000.

Hmmm. I was asking for advice, but thanks anyway. Sorry to trouble you.

Thankyou Possu for your information.
Very helpful, anyone any idea how much a new ADV tank is from BMW?

Thankyou Blues n Twos, didn't realise we had to shift our discussion to another forum.

Adventure tanks.

I two am in the process of changing tanks and already have all the q.d. fuel line connectors on the standard 1150 tank. Where does one find the right angled pattern, these would be just the job but have not seen these any where. Halfords sell the standard type (same as t.t's) any advice welcome.
Dave GS (I'll soon have a big one too!).

You were not asking for advice you were asking to buy a ADV tank
And does anyone have one to sell?
i removed your phone number from this post
and your e-mail address from your third post

.... and like i said if you want to buy or sell anything on the site you have to sponsor the site to have that privilege (that sponsorship goes to the upkeep and running costs of the site)

Fair enough if you don't want to sponsor you can still use the site but don't then expect the benefits that the ones that do help the site by sponsoring get.

All i'm asking you to do is follow the forums rules and guidelines for Buying or selling stuff... is it too hard to stick to them? everyone else has to:nenau

DEMONDGROOVER,

I have an ADV 30L tank for sale if you are interested, Silver with blue graphics ( not yet fitted) £300

Andrew

(O)
Put it in the for sale section then and please don't try circumventing the forum rules... only sponsoring members should have the benefits to buy stuff off the site
