1150 Black engine?

Hi folks,

I'm buying a used single spark 1150 engine which is black. does anyone know which year these were first released? Only ask as the seller is unsure of the year. It's to replace my 12 year old one so its gotta be younger than that I would think?

Mine is a bit later, 2003, but when I ordered the bike a black engine was one of the options I was offered. Just ticked the box and that is what it came with.
