Hi there.
Ex K1100 owner, I live in europe and i am searching for a R11xxgs

I like early 1150s with 6 speed gearbox, ( dont like hydro clutch through) but what about gearbox failures?
I read about some early failures at 6 speed gearbox input shaft splines ,because of misalingment??

Thats an expensive fix, So i am thinking to narrow my search on 5 speed bikes.

Are there any owners, who had that issue on their 1150?

I wouldn't worry about it.

If the bike was going to have worn splines then it would've happened by now. I haven't had an 1150 in with stripped splines for approx 10 years.

But you must strip the drivetrain annually and lube, it's the US law for 1100/1150/1200

The 1150 i look after has 70.000klm.
Rides good and quiet, no clank when you engage the clutch.

Gearbox related, do you feel its a safer buy from a same mileage 1996 1100 that also rides and shifts good?

Depends on what you want from it ? I have had both but prefer the slightly more refined 1150 for travel but people are doing round world trips on 1100s as well...which one feels right to you ?

You’ll have more trouble with an 1100 gearbox than you will with an 1150.

I had an 1150 in about 2013 that let go. It had only done 30k miles, but any whif of grease put on by the factory had long since dried up. Personally id make sure any bike thats not already had a clutch has its spline greased to help avoid it happening.
