It gets used daily and has been running a little rough but I know it's massively overdue for service.
Stopped at some lights yesterday and when I pulled away I only got a short distance before the bike splutterred and cut out - very similar to the old days when you rode off without switching on you petrol tap
Fuel was low, so I topped it up from a jerry can (very embarassing to be buying fuel in a can - people thought I was one of those panic buyers)
Engine turns, there are some indications that fuel is going somewhere as you can hear it at the exhaust end but no joy.
I think that maybe it's to do with the battery having got run down (again, I know this will need changing this year) so I get jump leads which give the starter motor renewed energy but still no dice.
The only other time I've had something like this it was the Hall Sensor - but I've only ever read of those failing when a bike is parked up idle and then won't re-start. Is it possible for them to fail mid-ride?
To make matters even worse I know there is a small amount of oil weeping from the front cover so I guess it could have wormed it's way onto the sensors (not tested this yet)
Any ideas? (other than I should really get my bike serviced
)
