Excuse me for being somewhat indelicate, but did Sir perhaps have a trouser incident with the engine pron?

I'm well into this 'engine prawn', don't get much at home, my engine is a dirty old lump ! Nice looking beast developing before our very eye's.

Those are the tears of an angel mate.

Or mine after I paid the bill. Always get a quote first, always get a quote first ....

A bit of a pause on this but I now have everything I need to get it back up and running again, so a few weekends should see her straight. Plan is to rebuild the engine, put the dented tank and beak back on for now and run it for a few weeks to iron out any little foibles (still not sure if the iABS should come out for example). Then once I'm happy it's mechanically sound and I'm not going to be taking the tank off and on again, the beak, tank and cockpit panel go off to Tunneruk for painting.

Thinking about a slightly different colour variant on the SE theme though - Lexus and Mercedes do a really nice white metallic with loads of sparkle, that would look nice.

Oh and the seat needs to go to Mr Taylor for a recover and gel insert.

Unfortunately the gobshites who did the original blasting and powder coating managed to grit blast the headers and y piece, not polish them as instructed.

So choices are to get them ceramic coated - Zircotec are about 1/2 a mile from my house - or get replacements. Grrr.

Oh and I'm starting to look for the next project - maybe a GT stylee. Possibly a K series? What you guys got in your sheds? Must be cheap and broken, preferably not an insurance job though.

I have a shonker of a lawn mower. Brigs engine, johns ecu mod, one into one remus....the mod list goes on. Not run since last summer. £300.00 to you my good sir, £150.00 to everyone else :D

Handlebars tonight. I put a thread on here about 10 yrs ago describing how I fettled some Renthal bars to take the OE heated grips and brush guards. Well, same again. I salvaged the bar ends, fitted them into the Renthal bar ends with special service tool no 1.

Then drill and tap a little countersunk grub screw to hold them in place.

Ready for the next a stage ...

10 pages of quality reading,

Looking very nice, some interesting comments regarding clarity in asking 3rd partys for prices before starting work!

Reminds me of a mate, whom many years ago was rebuilding a rover V8, and sent the rocker covers off for chrome plating.

He'd seen an add in one of the monthly rags, that offered uber cheap chrome plating.

Parts wee dispatched and some time passed and this large box returned in due time.

Imagine the look of dismay on a young 20 somthing when he unwrapped some rather bland pale grey looking parts.

some phone calls later .... a very unhappy but much wiser (and poorer) friend.

The summary of the phone call was as follows.

You asked for chrome plating, you got chrome plating ...

You wanted them shiney, then you need them polished .....

If you want them polished its an additional xxxxxx,

How much!!!!!!

Chrome plating is cheap, the expense comes in the time taken to polish lol

he never got them polished BTW ;)

Cheers Santa (is it that time of year already?). Glad to know it's not just me! To be fair I saved enough getting the studs done to suck up the extra cost of barrels and heads, and they do look fantastic. Just beginning to think about the paint job now - in touch wit Tunneruk. That might cost a kidney though.

This is as good as watching Ed China doing his thing on Wheeler Dealers. Top work. Thinking about it....are you really Ed in disguise?

Funny! I'm a big fan of Mr China (less so of his gobby mate). Sadly much less hair and less capability.

Glad to hear it's going down well - maybe even get it started over the weekend ....
