The only downside I can see of the paint is that it is a gloss finish, not the satin finish of the original paint. Hammerite smooth satin is a near perfect match for the black on the GS.
Just been and bought some didn't notice gloss finish looks like I'll be givin the gates a freshen up.��

Sorry to interfere with your thread Nin. Anything I can do to help let me know. My bike is almost identical to yours - apart from the damageI've got a few bits and pieces like Wunderlich rider and passenger lowerers that might be useful. If I remember from when we met last week you're fairly tall.

Managed to make a little progress this morning before the family woke up.
Yesterday I noticed an oil weep behind the Hall sensors
So off comes the front cover, which is pretty corroded anyway.
Anything else I should do while I'm in here? Bike is 2005 with 72k miles, but very quiet on tick over.

Rear rack corrosion
Rocker cover - but new ones on the way, thanks Colt.
Leaking fuel connectors put petrol on the gearbox and stained the paint - that might need a respray
I carried out a Cat-scan to confirm
Bars are bent - but I'll put Fatbars on anyway
Damage to rear drive casing. I'll just have to touch that up for now - any recommendations for the longer term?
Just spotted the main beam unit has a broken mounting which I can't find. Doh! Will need to replace that.

I had my eye on this bike but you were too quick!! Great to see that you're making rapid progress and thanks for sharing. Is that tank repairable?

I sent Chris (Tunneruk) a couple of pictures and he's very confodent he can repair and respray it to look better than new - he'll spray on the GS not use decals.
Progress quick so far but some heavy weeks at work and an empty wallet now will slow things up a bit!

Is the rear rack damaged or just corroded?
Just corrosion fortunately. DaveGS has just given me a contact in Reading for metal finishing so I'll get a load of bits together including the rear rack and get them powder coated.
Thanks Dave. I'll get all my bits and pieces together and go and have a chat with them.
Right the only thing I'm struggling to find is a replacement beak - anybody got or know of one? It will be resprayed so colour isn't important.

From memory some of the threaded inserts are a bit shot, but they can be replaced, but the beak extension is currently on my bike.

Definitely in better nick than that!
If you have a soldering iron, you can heat up the brass threaded inserts and pull them out of the old beak, and use the same method to push them into a new beak.
I'm popping over to Leighton Buzzard next Sat to pick up some old bike parts, how far is that from you?
