Somewhere out there.
How noisy is the camchain on these normally
I did valves and floats recently some valves were slightly tight.
Tb have been balanced and the engine seems to ride nice. Less surging than before
However it seems to sound very ticky ticky when running.
I would say both sides but left may be slightly louder.
I think it is slightly noisier on start up, then quietens as oil gets pumped around then as it warms it comes back
Just ticking noise and I can't hear it whilst riding along. If I am standing next to the bike and increase the revs the noise increases with the revs
Usual or new cam tensioners?

I have seen the posts re lhs tensioner and would guess it hadn't been done but only had bike a few weeks. I suppose what I am asking is if the lhs was knackered would I still hear it on the right?

these bikes make noise as there is no fairing. It is normal. Change the tensioner if it hasn't been done, then ride it.

Also make sure the oil level is above half way and less than the top of the glass. to check the oil level, the engine/oil needs to be warmed for at least 10 mins or 2 bars and then left on the side stand for 10 min then place on the centre stand. When the oil level is low i find the noise of the engine louder. also 20w50 is the recommended oil. Dont warm the engine on the stand, these bikes should not be left running and standing. But all the info you could ever want on an 1150 is on here. Do a search.

Left side tensioner, hiding behind the throttle body, if it has a 17mm head on it then its the old model, if it is 15mm then its the later upgraded type, these are not the quietest engines :thumb2

I have the later version of the LHS cam chain tensioner and still had noise, I agree with Steptoe, get a kit and O/H both Tb's

if you are going that far, get new throttle cables and the later version guide to the twist grip as well, MUCH BETTER after wards

Changed lhs Tensioner much quieter once some oil got to it. The first few seconds were a bit worrying lol thanks for advice.
The right is slightly loud so might change that
Has anyone changed the right? Does it come out without fouling the down pipes?

Cheers.

Nothing in life is never easy is it!
Though it looks like the rhs has not been modified so I would be replacing like for like. Can anyone confirm that? Cheers.

It's rare that the right hand side needs replacing as, due to it's location on the underside of the cylinder, it doesn't have the oil starvation problem that the left does...

Check your right hand throttle body for ticking (hold your finger on the control wheel with the engine running).
