Greetings all,
I seem to have a charging problem with my GS,
fitted a new battery and charged it overnight but after running for a while and trying to restart, the battery is very low on juice. If I use the heated grips it happens even quicker. I have checked the tension on the alternator belt and it seems to be quite tight, quarter turn at longest point. The battery light goes off as soon as I start the engine, connections to the batttery seem fine. I did have to resolder the neg/earth terminal lead to the battery when I first had the bike but I think it's a good connection.
Anyone got any idea of how much voltage it should be putting out under load when idle and say 4k rpm?
Any help greatly recieved as I can't use the bike with it being unreliable,
cheers in advance.
Paddy

Stick a meter on the battery.....if you get 13.5v(ish) across it when she's running and no major drain when she's not, the battery is shot........

Hi,
I don't think it's the battery as it's a new one.

You say the battery is new. Why. Did the old one fail, or give the same problems you have now ?.

It's quite common for a new battery to fail, or are U/S from the start. You'll just be guessing and so will everyone else unless you check the alternator output .
