Hello

I´m thinking about buying a 1150GS or a 1200GS.Are there any known problems with the twinspark 03 model? Like dripping oil on the 1200?

The only problem that could be expensive would poss. be a problem with the servo brakes, if the bike has abs. Also heard of problems with the coil/lead on one of the cylinders, but thats not that expensive to sort.
In general, a good solid workhorse that doesnt like salt with it`s diet.

ps. had a few 2003 R1150GS and adventures, no issues with any!

i just got a second hand unit last month with 16K in it...the problem i have is that whenever the tank is full it will show empty...but after a few liters have been used it will show full....even so im very happy with bike....:D

Well, my '03 has been forced to ingest more than it's share of salt, and to date the faults NOT attributable to rider error/misfortune have amounted to the gear position indicator developing Alzheimers and an intermittent mis-fire that's probably attributable to a bad coil on the LH pot (see Nick's post).

If you want someone to tell you NOT to buy either bike, you've come to the wrong place. :thumb

Enjoy :D

Hi
The answers confirms what i had read on other forums that the 1200 is a better bike to ride but has more faults...I´m a DIY person så i will probobly get a 1150 GS with the twinspark engine and ABS breaks.
The only problem is that there are no 1150GS at any reseller in Stockholm so i cant test ride it...

Have a word with Gert Johansson of "Gert's BMW" in Angelholm.

He is a friend of a friend whom I met in July - a decent guy and a real bike enthusiast (has dozens of classics under restoration !).

He might be able to fix you up with a test ride even if he doesn't have one in stock.

Best of luck.

Bob.

Ängelholm is 600km from where i live :( ...But thanks for the tip

That's only 375 miles each way :D

I've managed more than 800 miles in a day (on a K1200GT admittedly).

Seriously . . I'm sure Gert would help out if you were stuck.

Good luck.

Bob.
