Hi all has anyone had a problem (on a twinspark) where under acceleration nearing the top end of the rev range there bike seams to hold back a little then go and then hold back a little seams to happen early on in a ride althought bike temp gauge is up to temp before i give it some. any surgestion,
could it be a coil braking down if so how would i check it before getting a new one. :bow
please help

Pull coil out (It'll be the main one(coilpack) that will fail) put a spare spark plug in it and see if it fires or just disconnect the plug to the coilpack, one at a time to detect the failed/failing unit.

My work is done here...

Not quite right - but your learning.

Pull the two lower secondary plug caps off, so your running with just the main plugs - see if it runs on both cylinders.

If it's cutting out or missing on one side, put the secondaty plug back on the side thats missing and see if it runs as normal .

ouch :nono nobody said turn the bike off first i got such a belt from the lower plug cap when i pulled it off
i did all you said the bike ran a little lumpy with the lower caps off but seamed intermittant and hard to locate on which side so i put them back on and pulled the top caps off but this time i stopped the bike :o then just ran it on the lower plug and and it ran ok so it looks like it i will have to try some more coil packs any idea how much we are talking or can a dealer do a test with diagnostic aquipment :nenau

replace the lower plug one at a time while it's running on the main plugs -

The main coil plug thats ok won't show any engine change when replacing the lower secondary plug - It'll pick up and run better when you replace the secondary plug on the fecked side. it's not rocker science.

use a pair of insulated grips/pliers

you make it sound simple but the bike normally ticks over ok and runs smooth the problem only seams to happen under heavy acceleration and near the top end of the rev range more noticeable in top gear

it's called diagnosing for faults -

Well that means it's not likely to be the main plug cap coils - so we can move on to the next thing it might be - How many miles, when was the bike last serviced ( properly, not just an oil/filter change).

You say it happens at the high end of the rev range. Could it be the rev limiter cut out cutting in - the GS rev counter isn't the most accurate instrument. Why are you revving the nuts off your bike :nenau .

the bike was serviced at 12,000 at wolleston bmw its now done 14,000 i mentioned the problem to them before the service but when i picked the bike up they said they had road tested it and found no fault the guy at the service dept counter said it could be a coil :nenau i said can you test them he said no so i walked away as he didnt fill me with confidence and the conversation was going nowhere .
as for the limiter :nenau i'm a little way of the red sector and the first time i noticed it i was following a fellow gser on a duel carrigeway and he was leaving me i have spoken to other gsers and the general answer is it revs cleanly to the red  hope im not pissing you off yet :D
