OK, got myself my 1150 GSA but want to get a Datatool alarm fitted.
Now, with all the Jap bikes I've owned, the alarms are usually fitted in the tail piece.

Where do you guys have your alarms fitted on your 1150s. Under the seat there's really only enough room for the tools and you can't fit an alarm in the sub frame as there are no secure side pannels.
So - Under tank (is this wise) or somewhere in the fairing?

Where did the installer hide yours and where did you have your LED light located?
Cheers.

Cheers for the reply ovenpaa.
I forgot to mention that mine is an ABS model. I've only had the bike a couple of weeks and have no need to lift the tank - so don't know how much room there is.

Hmm, I would say you still have room for the alarm even when ABS is fitted.

I've a standard 1150GS. As others have said, goes under the tank... towards the front. A word of caution though, 12 months after being fitted, mine started to malfunction. Called in specialist cause it was still under warranty. Problem was apparently caused by exposure to rain accessing the unit from below the telelever swinging arm in the front. When replacing the unit it was positioned in a less rain accessable location. As an insurance against futher trouble, also created a 'shield of duct tape' immediately to the front of the unit. No problems since.

I have the factory alarm on my 1150GSA and it's fitted under the rear of the tank in front of the seat.

Had mine fitted under tank at front (ABS+servo). Only thing I noticed was that the anti tamper device not installed, but if someone wants to risk their hearing and spend their time removing the tank when the alarm is on full song then good luck to them. Touch wood, no problems up to now (3 years)provided that battery in good nick and bike given a decent run every 2-3 weeks.

Cheers guys.
Under the tank seems to be the place then.
I like the position of where Mutley1150's is as it would be the most protected by the elements. Of course, I have to see how big a unit the datatool is, and at the end of the day it'll probably be down to what the alarm fitter recomends at the time of fitting.
I'll obviously tell the fitter what I would like but knowing my luck, I'll come back and find it mounted on the wing mirror or summat ;)

The factory alarm is a lot smaller than the Datatool and I think you may struggle to get it that far back under the tank as you also have the battery filling up a big lump of space. Mine is just coming up for two years old and has never been under cover apart from for servicing - no problems so far.

My 1150 has a Datatool System 3 attached to the front subframe LH side. No problems so far except the fobs packing up but the company was very helpful in replacing them. I guess they fit it under the tank to make it less accessible to tampering. If I were to fit one myself I think I might put it at the rear of the tank where there is a good space and it is out of the damp. They are supposed to be waterproofish though. You want me to take pic for reference? :)

Datatool 3 alarm here, on an 1150 adv with ABS....fits neatly under the tank on top of the ABS gubbins.....no water ingress probs even with all the fording and drowning of bike in 3 years :thumb

PS look in the toolbox of the person installing the alarm...if they so much as possess a scotchlock, tell them to piss off and don't let them near your bike ;)

Superb. Sounds just the ticket.

Ah yes, the dreaded scotchlock. Used by bokes who bodge car stereos for Halfords.
Advise heeded.
