1150 GSA burning way too much fuel

Having the same problems - but TPS is ok, no leaks, getting about 220-250 before light comes on out of 30l tank on an 1100.

Any more ideas? :D

Did the non-standard tank get fitted with the original gubbins, or did you switch the float arm and so on over as well?

If it's got the original stuff in a larger tank , the readings will be all wrong anyway.

Take a can of petrol out with you and run the bugger dry........you've probably got 100 miles left in it after the light comes on

Good question - was all done before I got the bike.

I'd get a jerrycan, but they've all sold out for some reason. :nenau

Edit: Now thinking about it, I manage to get about 25l in from light first coming on, so must be right ...

Seems you have several choices then.

You could replace the float arm (and maybe necessary to replace the potentiometer dial that the contacts rub on as well, I don't know :nenau) for one from an ADV tank, you could bend the existing arm somewhat so it will go right down to the bottom of the tank (although it probably wouldn't read the top few litres then :blast) or you could ignore it and just know you have more in reserve.

A more important issue could be that the sock on the end of the fuel pump might not in fact be anywhere near the bottom of the bigger tank, so that extra size could be wasted......I've never compared a standard tank FP with an ADV tank one to see if they are mounted differently, are different lengths or anything, but it stands to reason that there must be a difference in the positioning of the sock on the end that dictates where it can suck fuel up from.

If you have a standard take-off mounted in a bigger tank, you could (possibly) add a tube with some sort of filter sock onto the bottom of the pump so you could access the last 5 litres, but as I say, I'm just guessing here.

Have a look at the REAL OEM fiches for the adv tanks and the standard tanks to see if you can see the difference in how the filter sock is positioned lower down :thumb2

Gents FYI
The petrol light came on at 290 miles on the clock.
The bike ran to a standstill with 335 miles on the clock.

The journey was at an average speed of 65 mph I reckon, with a bit of town work and a bit of thrashing past things ( take that with pinch of salt ) but mostly constant travel. :D

The bike had both panniers on throughout and one was carrying 4.5 ltr of petrol in a small jerry can.

The petrol gauge bars seem to drop off at approx every 40 mile to begin with but this drops to a bar approx every 20 mile at the bottom of the gauge.

Not sure why this adjustment made such a huge difference but well chuffed with the result. :bounce1
