Had a failure of the front UJ whilst doing about 70 down the A11 near Cambridge (it completed snapped) which was a bit of a shock...... I now need to source a replacement driveshaft as I assume the broken and battered UJ can't be replaced?

I have spoken to Motorworks who don't have any GSA shafts but do have the GS ones. Their advice was that they are the same length and the only difference is the alignment key on the splines - which isn't an issue if I get the whole shaft.

Would very much appreciate any comments on whether this is correct and that I can therefore replace with a full GS shaft?

Cheers

The advice you have been given is correct.....provided you replace the complete shaft either will fit, they are both the same length and fit.

You can replace the UJ's, but it's a bit of a faff. The originals are staked in, so in order to get the replacements to stay in place, you would need to stake them in, or spot weld as some of the 3rd party repairers do. I'm not a fan of welding because the weld goes between the cap that contains the roller bearings and the knuckle. I stake mine in using a centre punch to peen over the knuckles. However the UJ's are not cheap and cost over £100 for a pair.

Great advice, many thanks Ian :thumb2

I can get the GS full shaft for about £140 from Motorworks so that seems to be the way to go.
