Hi, I'm trying to find the 'clamping bush' which secures the outer end of the handguard on a 2003 GSA to the bar ends with a countersunk M8 bolt. On one side of my bike it is missing. It's part number 32712328841.

Motorworks don't seem to have them even though they have old handguards and RealOEM doesn't show them used on any other bike, although I suspect that the 1200GS also used something very similar that may do the job? Does anyone have one of these lurking around anywhere? I'm trying to return the bike to its original condition with the proper parts, so although I can work a solution out, I'd really like it to be as per factory, as far as possible.

Thanks,

Harry

The 1200GS is too big and uses a larger diameter screw M12.

I’ve checked…..

So even if you managed to get the washer off a R1200gs, it’s not going to fit.

Your only options are:

Option 1. Hope someone has one spare.

Or

Option 2. Hope some kind soul will make you one.

The original is made from aluminium anodised black.
But a replacement could be made from hard black plastic considering it’s only a special washer.

I could be that kind soul and try to manufacture one very similar in black delrin over the weekend.

Make sure that you use Loctite when refitting the bolt. I lost one after replacing the master cylinder.

Ian,

Forgive my silence - I set off from the Alps yesterday at 05:45 and got back to last night at 19:45 feeling a little 'buzzy'. 50% Peage, 50% back roads. The old girl didn't miss a beat...

Wow - thats impressive! How might a chap thak a kind soul for such endeavors?

Just send me a PM with your address and I’ll stick it in the post.

If it does the job, (which it will as I tried it out on my bike) then a small contribution to a charity of your choosing would be all I would ask.

Dear Ian,

Well, this probably won't surprise you, but I also own a 2003 R1150GSA (for 22 years and 170k), and after changing my right grip forgot to use locktite and the bolt and clamping bushing vanished (luckily, the plastic hand guard retained the weight or I probably would have crashed). As noted, the clamping bushings are no longer available (at least here in the USA.) Could I persuade you to use your lathe expertise to fashion me one? I'd pay you, donate, pay for shipping to Fort Worth, TX, USA---whatever it takes! Many thanks for considering my request. Funny, BMW uses and re-uses so many parts on their bikes and cars (we found the TPS on a 1987 535is), but not this bushing which seems to be specific to the GSA.

Best,
Andrew

Dear Andrew,

I have thought long and hard about this and fortunately for you I was very fortunate with my job during the late 80’s to travel extensively throughout the USA in somewhat happier times and I found the locals to always be both friendly and generous. So by some way of a small repayment, I have made the washer that you want and I am more than willing to ship it to you at my expense.

But here is the kicker, you need to send me your Address details so I can ship it out on Monday (13th). So you will need to send me those private details by personal message (PM), and you can’t do that unless you have subscribed to this site.

I look forward to hearing from you. Your special washer awaits…..

Hi Ian,
I find myself in the same position, in that one of the clamping bushes for my recent acquired 2003 R115R with GS hand guards disappeared on its maiden journey 😩. If you still have the means to produce another washer I would be more than willing to pay for associated costs.
Thanks
Steve

I knew I should have made a batch of them….😂

I’ll have a go at making one this week.

All done, I was bored this evening. :D

You will need to send me your address by Private Mail (PM) but you can’t do that unless you are a subscriber.

As soon as you’ve done that, I’ll pop it in the post.

Ian
