1150 GSA Tank Capacity

I've got an 1150 GSA with the larger tank, which supposedly has a capacity of 30 litres. Anyone know whether it actually does hold 30 litres? I've run it until the fuel guage is empty and the warning light's been on for a few miles, and then only ever managed to get 27 litres in. If the tank really does hold 30 litres, then that's great, as it means still 3 left. If not, I might be about to run out, and it's a big bugger to push. Anyone know?

You need to lay the bike down on it's side to get the last couple litres to the pump side.

Lucky you for having the larger tank. Just what you need in leafy Surrey, what with petrol stations being on average 10 miles apart.

If you run out of fuel and have to push it! Well maybe you should have filled up at the last petrol station.

The reason I'm interested is I use the GSA for commuting into central London and I can just about get four day's commuting to an empty tank. Rinding every day for a couple of hours in all weathers, I just want to now how far I can go without refuelling. CB500 managed two days between fuel stops, R850GS three, now R1150GSA just about squeaks four.

Yes, I know a GSA is a bit OTT for commuting, but I like it.

Do you still have to do that with the ADV tank Tim? I know you did with the standard tank but I thought that the idea of the link pipe was to balance the two lobes.

Remove the filler and drill one or two 6mm holes in the neck around 25mm down, it makes brimming it much quicker but be aware that brimming it and not riding off soon after in warm weather will allow fuel to overflow under your bike.

I think it still gets a bit more fuel over on the adv and certainly does with the 1200 ADV which I guess also has a link pipe.

Still works on the ADV despite the link pipe tank. Gets you almost 10 miles if you tip it over completely on the R/H cylinder, and i mean completely. not just lay it over. .

Yes, the right side as you sit on the bike. The fuel pump/filter is on that side so getting as much fuel to it as possible gives you a bit more range in an emergency.
