Just wondering what the average 1150 GSA owners are getting as a tank range. I've heard others quoting figures of 300 miles average on a tank  but currently I'm averaging around 220. The bike has 40k miles on it, is regularly serviced and has only had the coil sticks changed a few weeks ago. The main riding I do is commuting to work (15 minutes of M4 and some A roads).
Just trying to get an idea if all is well for an average GSA that is used all year round.

something would appear to be a miss, my beasty with no panniers but with the top box
with Y-piece and Remus gets on average 280 to a tank,
with Y-piece and standard about 295,
and as standard about 300,

the mileages quoted are based on the odo and not when the low fuel light comes, as I have ridden a surprising distance with the low fuel light on

all this is on average riding I don't tend to be quick on a bike or overly rev the engine.

Tanks

How fast are you going hammering up motorways does drsticly affect fuel consumption as do TT panniers these act like air brakes on a plane!. have you gotr an adventuire tank? mine has done over 300 miles and still not run out (apart from tuesday morning at 06.30 when it ran out! long walk to garage and buying a petrol can!).

I can get 300 miles - from home to lands end without stopping :) Nice.

Bloody hell mate, that could be me! i do the M4 plus some 'A' roads on the same bike, and i also replaced my primary coils a few weeks ago:eek:

I can comfortably get 300. I did have a fuel gauge problem, so took the tank off to sort it when the light was showing with NO bars on the gauge, i reckoned there was approx 4 litres still in there. Most fuel i've ever got in is 29 litres.

Wave if you see me!!:)

Wasn't the 30L fuel tank an option on early advs? Is this the small tank?

The question should be how much are you putting in the tank rather than what you get from it.

Sado's bike is an SE, 2005 model would have had a 30 litre tank as std.

Used 19 litres all motorway, about 100 miles on the M6 at anything up to the speed limit or down to 40 odd filtering down the inside lane, then slightly faster for the next 100 :augie , two up with top box and panniers on an 1100.

Don't think I need to put a big tank on my little 1100 :)

Ok, not hammering up the M4 (only getting on at J7 and of at J5), no panniers or pillion, full Adv tank (mines an 05 SE)...

Tank range

I've got an 04 1150 adv large tank. I do a 50 mile commute each day 10mins on the motorway and the rest on A roads and a bit of town. As a general rule i do cane it a bit and normally fill up at 230miles on average when the light comes on, however i can normally only get 24.5/26.5 liters in at this point so thats a fair old reserve. On a recent trip to the lakes I ran at a steady speed on the m-way and the light came on at about 280 miles, I keep my luggage on all the time and havent noticed any difference in consumption with it removed. Fuel consumption on the 1150 is definitely affected by your riding style and starts to guzzle a bit above 80 i reckon.

It must ...

... be an SE thing ! I only get to about 200/220 before the light comes on, then I've got about 40miles in hand before pushing starts. This is on my London/Devon commute on fast A roads and bits of motorway; I do use it enthusiastically but the range doesn't improve significantly if I'm 'in company' :nenau

... be an SE thing !

It's the poxy SE low top gear - riding along with shapeshifter ( he has the low top gear) coming back from morocco at easter through spain and france he was filling up with 5 liters more than my bike at each fuel stop.

300m

C.London to Lake District full tank 300m in 6h driving nonstop at 60-70mph

miles per tank

Like others, I agree something sounds not right. Mine is an 02 GSA coming up to 40,000 miles - I get 250 miles a fill no problems then put about 22 litres in. But having a phobia about trying to push the monster up the A12 I always head for a pump when I'm down to 3 bars - so 300 miles a tank should easily be doable. My riding is fairly average - 80mph ish on mways, 65/70ish on B roads, and a mix of town, A and dual carriageway.

Are you saying you get 250 mile with 3 bars still available......

I've just got home from work with the fuel gauge flickering between 1 and 2 bars and the odometer showing 208 miles on it.....:nenau

I consistantly get 10 miles to a litre. 33 litre tank, do the math :thumb

I did a Tank conversion early on this year. standard GS 22 ltr to GSA 31 ltr
My GS has the high 6th gear and shows E on the RID when in 6th gear.
From empty the GSA Tank took a little over 31 lts to fill.
The bike was then taken out with 5 ltr container of fuel in the top box, and used over 2 days until it run out of fuel.
This was completed with a bit of motorway / A roads and B roads.
Total mileage until it run out was 338 miles :)
The fuel warning Light came on 80 miles prior to this but thats because I've used the standard GS tank internals.

03 Adventure, 2 spark.

I get a regular 320 miles with some high speed moorway runs and A roads. It does depend how you load it though. Put the panniers on and load it with weight - it will use more fuel. It has to, the energy to drive all that lot through the air has to come from somewhere - out of your hydrocarbons. Mine is a standard Adv with the lower top gear which cruises at 4000rpm showing 72mph (maybe 73 - a needle thickness over the 70 mark anyway.) No GPS on this one to compare true speed.

My other Gs is a single spark 1150 with the tall top gear. It shows 6 on the RID though, yet the revs at 4000 give an indicated 85 and 81 on the GPS thing.

02 standard single spark 1150 (not ADV), consistently getting at least 11 miles to the litre 2-up loaded riding quite hard abroad, up to 12/litre solo round the usual haunts of Scotland where it has to be said I'm a bit 'driving miss daisy', that kind of equates to yer maun's 330 odd to empty.
