I might be in a position to trade up to a 1200 . On my trip round oz i hit a cattle grid (on the 1150) to fast and have bent the front forks etc $6500 to repair. If I trade it in, as is,($10,000) and pocket the insurance money(put it to the new bike) I will only be $3,500 short of what i paid for it, so financially it makes sense to trade up. I am worried that the 1200 is not as strong as the 1150, (I donot reckon it looks as good either) any one had any experiance with both or is there any one with an opinion on the differances. Cheers Mark.

Hi Mark,
Long time no see. Quite a few of the boys I ride with have traded up. Not one problem yet that I know about.
All of them like the new better than the old (maybe cognitive dissonance - you will have to decide). I have a standard 12 and have swopped onto and 1150GSA several times on ride outs - to me it feels lardy and unresponsive. But you will get plenty of alternative views on here (I can hear the droning already)
cheers

Hey ! Aspad , Yep long time !!! maybe we can do another ride in the new year, thanks for your reply, biggest thing I have heard so far is they are not quite as stable on the road as 1150. Cognitive dissonance is one of my favourite expressions! cheers Mate.

I spoke to Julie Saunders at the NEC.

Kevin was still out in South America with the real Long Way Down!
Half the bikes were 1150 GSA, half 1200 GSA.
She said only the 12GSA's had given niggly problems, the 1150's rode all like "swiss watches".

Despite the fact that I could afford to trade up to an 1200GSA, (albeit pissing off the wife in the process!) I cannot think of a bike I would swap the 1150 for.

Thanks blade runner, Ifeel exactly how you do, its just that I will never get a deal like this again (well i cannot imagine i will) so the financial aspect may get the better of me.
To use aspads line I am probably suffering from a case of cognitive dissonance.

Beware of the rear subframe cracking (seems that a simple washer as a spacer avoids the problem. Bmw tighter the frame and it bends it inwards, leading to stress fracture!!!). The gearbox seals can cause problems, the final drive is not maintainence free and the seals can go.

Not as stable as the 1150 but lighter and much easier to handle off road.

Personally though, I prefer the 1150 and would look to the 800GS as my next bike.
