1150 gsa W507 AOT

There are a LOAD of these with over 150K and Hank in the states was last seen with 450K miles on his

Look after it and It will look after you :thumb
I'm hearing you you're speaking sense and believe it too so I'm going to have to think, I do need the large range though.
I've racked 2k on my mint TU GSA in 3 weeks so I can see where it's going. I ran an old pan, great mile muncher and it does end up paying for itself

Really??? Do you live in the Serengeti, where fuels stations are few and far between ?

Just get a GSA Tank and stick it on if it is a Deal breaker Jeff is nearly giving it away for goodness sake you can afford a tank and fuel pump flange if needed

You should still see 150 to 180 to the tank But Jeff is the man to ask as a lot of these early 1150's had E 6th gears which helped economy immensely

Serengeti lol it could be, I've saw many wildebeest en route, I'm sure I've even saw people with knives and batons but it was deffo not Africa.

What you say makes sense, so I'll look into it.

However...

A 100 mile commutes and upto 4hrs teaching on bike, a big tank helps with all that, it means 2/3 fuel ups a week opposed to everyday which was happening on a previous 21ltr tank. its nice to sometimes just dart to or from work, straight home especially when a Sloth has more energy than me, and not a penny from furlough like most of us driving/riding teachers.

If it’s any help, I bought my R1150GS new to do a 110 mile a day daily commute. Cornhill on Tweed to the West side of the Edinburgh bye-pass if you want to look at the route on Google maps. Whilst I made a habit of filling up every day, I often did two days 220 miles. It will thrive doing the riding you want.

I used to do well over 600 miles every week on my R1150GS for the first 18 months on my daily commute and rides out at the weekend. Dealer servicing in those days and new tyres used to eat a hole in my finances, but I enjoyed my journey every day to work and back.

Thank you, that's great to know! So its in remarkable condition corrosion wise, with the usual obvious tell tale spill marks and scuffs, but you're going to be hard pushed to sell when you consider that the clutch and suspension are original, it has had some damage and repair, and those are just some big ticket items due. Consider the cost for this and you're back to a reasonably mileage GS/A which is much easier to move on.

All I can add is, this thread is about a bike of unknown history and mileage that has been dressed up, which is on sale for £3,100. Do you know if the suspension is original and has the clutch given problems or been changed ?

In a different thread I’m selling a one owner bike with known history & loads of records, that hasn’t been dressed up for £1,750.

It’s your money and your choice, my recommendation is buy the bike you want and will feel happy with. Best of luck with your search.

I wouldn't touch the W907 AOT bike in post #1, with a barge pole............it's a bitsa

Yours is a better buy at over £1000 less too

Jonny, I did think of saying that but as I’ve got ‘skin in the game’ as it were decided not to say too much. I looks very much like a ringer to me. 2000 (W) registration on a bike that didn’t exist at that time???

Boys, I agree. There's no doubt something fishy is going on, no skin off my back hence posting. Maybe he swapped the engine out, same time clocks, into a frame. Could be entirely innocent and be a cracking one off colour

Having had both a 2000W, a 2002 - 02 and a 2004 - 04 1150 GS and then a 2005 - 05 GSA from brand new (still got it) and then latterly 2005 1150 GSA's, both used, I know the differences of the 1150 range and agree

Could the reg issue not just be the time of year it was registered? My Bonneville has an 04 reg but it's an 05 bike. If the model is only 1 year out?

What is the issue with it being made of differing parts? Aren't all the bikes made the same?

Just interested please don't read this as argumentative.

No, the 1150 GSA wasn't released to the public until Spring 2002, so a BMW would never be 2 years out of synch, from Spring/Summer 2000 and in fact, the 1150 GSA wasn't even unveiled until Sept 2001, at the Milan bike show and not on sale until early 2002

I have a Jan 2005 registered 1150 GSA, however it was built in summer - June/July 2004, so sat around in a crate or a dealer's showroom for a good 6 months

I would reckon a bike that's been through 10 people and 100k miles looking that clean has definitely had a few bits swapped. Maybe the last owner got it and restored it a bit? Different engine and the clocks off the same bike? Although if this was the case I'm sure there's be receipts....
