1150 Ohlins shocks Am I Mad ?

Ohlins shockers.

Ok I think I just got a bit carried away on Ebay , I have just bought a very clean looking secondhand set of Ohlin shocks for my 1150gs , the owner says he has done 12k miles on them and only removed them because he sold the bike. He says they tranformed his gs , I bought them because at a new cost of nearly £1800 the pair I was never going to own a new set and my 1150 is a keeper so seemed a good idea at 5am this morning. I paid £470 , your thoughts on the shocks and the price please

Sounds like a good price to me. I've just coughed up £800 for a rear Ohlins for my HPN. Do you think if you get a chance you could let me know the width of the top bush on the rear shock and the year of your bike as the bush on my Ohlins is too wide and I've got to machine it down. I've got a set up manual I could copy for you which might help. Regards:ChrisKelly

Hi Chris

Yes of course I can give you any dimensions you need , am still waiting to get my grubby mits on them yet as they are coming from Budapest

I bought a new rear Ohlins for my 1100 a couple of years ago and, frankly, wasn't that impressed riding solo (95kg). Two up was a massive improvement. Swapped from a 160 to a 140 spring and it suddenly all started to work. Improved traction, ride - everything. The 140 - wound up - is ok with a pillion and top box for a Sunday bimble but the 160 goes back on when we go camping with the TT panniers etc.

Never worked out why Ohlins come with different springs for the 1100 & 1150. Anyone know if the geometry is different?

changing springs is optimal, but i really can't be arsed. i can live with a slightly harder ride one up.

I started fitting my shocks when i got home after work during the winter.

It took so long to do it, i didn't finish till the next morning.

But the difference was like....well...night and day.
