I'm just about to do this mod but before I go ahead have there been any issue or problems? Is there anything I should be aware of, apart from water crossing depth if I stall??

Just done this - can't believe the difference in sound. Saved me a few quid getting a remus and Y piece I. All I need now is a little slip on pipe at the end to keep the rain out. May try Halfords for something

[Motorcycle Exhausts Reg 54 Con and Use Regs RTA 1988 ] Every vehicle proppeled by an internal combustion engine shall be fitted with an exhaust system including a silencer and all the exhaust gases must pass through this silencer
MOT Inspection Manual 6.2 under reasons for rejection (mot failure) a Any part of the exhaust system missing or excessively deteriorated
Vehicle Inspectorate catergorisation of defects book. (this is the book that the police can use to prohibit the use of the vehicle. Exhaust system incomplete is a delayed prohibition.

Given the regulation stampage on the CAT I can't see this being a problem - there are other bikes like the Buell where the silencer is less noticeable. If by chance I do get stopped (bet I wont) I'll be reading out what it says on the CAT, which indicates even without the silencer the DB level falls within UK law.

Try Halfrauds or any car accessory shop.They sell chrome tail end pipes that just clip on to the end of car exhausts

Did the same some time ago, but kept the protection piece of the original exhaust (to avoid melting my boot)

Result: better sound and no melting of stuff in my left case.

How did you get the end of the pipe to point downwards - it sticks up coming out of my cat and presumably is open to rain coming in? Also - what did you use to clamp the original guard back on - the clamp is too big on mine?

Does anyone know how the OE can is constructed? I was thinking along the lines of just removing the internals to keep the weight down & avoid it filling with ford water once I have reinstalled a CAT

basically what you guys have done by removing the exhaust, he's done by removeing the internals.

I bought a ten pound tail pipe from halfords but not sure about it:

It's a piece of (used) stainless steel pipe from a car exhaust where the inner diameter almost fits over the outer diameter of the pipe coming out of the cat.

This was the piece I got:

Installed, it looked like this:

After a few days testriding I shortened it. As you wrote, it's mainly to avoid raining into the cat and to force the exhaust stream downwards.

Why not just take the pipe off altogether? Seems to be road legal and from what I gather, no side effects.
