my attempt worked

Hi guys just done the removing the silencer and putting a slash cut on to stop the rain
1st i was awestruck at the difference in the mid range
2nd the noise is only slightly louder
3rd the change has saved me the cost of a sebring system
4th this is permanant (maybe i'll change it to be more in keeping with bmw image
5th i can now put a full sized pannier on both sides
6th its hooligan time all over again
7th im going to do some long ride trials to see if there are any side effects i have'nt thought of
8th thankyou to whom ever came forward with this jem its a real piece of genius (so far it is) :clap :clap :clap

Posted this on another the other thread as well...

Any updates or problems thrown up by ditching the can?

Cheers Bryn :beerjug:

Still running stubby + cat after 12k miles over 12 months with no problems. Much preferable to std set up. Deeper and slightly louder noise makes for safer filtering but neighbours haven't even mentioned it despite 6am starts. Lighter bike, flat-spot at 3k less noticeable. Possibly less engine braking maybe but hasn't ever caught me out.

Looks neat Ian :thumb

I've just got a similar bit of stainless, but its probably around 3 inches longer than yours....may have it cut down a bit :)

mot book says if its modified,it must sound similar to a similar bike of similar age in standard condition, bsau stamp not needed, this mod sounds ok,so itl pass at a decent mot station, besides, how longs it take to bung a silencer on once a year??????.any lads in west york or around here have a prob wi mot,s get in touch, noise, lights aint a prob, within reason,i dnt repair bikes so i wont fail you for the work it,d provide me,,,,,,im 1 mile from milk bar at sherburn,,,discounts for clubs also

Just done it

Just got a stubby from Bryn, the bike sounds alot better but not to much to wind up the neighbours or wake the little ankle biters when trying to sneak out early in the morning.

Took about half an hour to do ( my bolt was all rusty, but with a bit of lubricant and alot of tuggin it came off in my hand....err...... the end can that is)

Now I just need some of them wheels like Coolcarbons:bounce1

Has anyone tried putting this through the mot yet? Also how stubby does the stubby have to be? Could you put it up to come out under the seat?

Mine's been through two MOT's since fitting a stubby, no problems at all.

Mine went through it's first MOT last year with this fitted. No problem at all...:D
