Hi!

I'm sure this must have been discussed, someone push me toward the thread, if so.

Remus race can

"y" peice

BBR chip

K & N all fitted.

There is definately improvement, bike seems to run a little rich, exhaust "blackish".

Is it worthwhile trying to increase air flow?

Fuel injection will adjust automatically to the exhaust changes.

Blackish emissions occur when engine cold. Also the black soot is caused by the aromatic hydrocarbons e.g. small amount of benzene in the fuel.

Emissions more noticable with y piece etc because throttle response much greater - therefore greater density of smoke!!

Geoff,

Looking at the Mods you list.........you'd be better getting it checked before attempting to change the fueling.

Better Black-ish as you put it, than too Grey/White-ish with the possible damage due to running weak..........:(

I've carried out most of the Mods you list except for the Chip and my pipe outlet looks a wee bit dark.

I'm not too concerned as the Fuel consumption hasn't changed from when it was standard but it does pull harder and runs more smoothly (read no surging) in the Mid-range than before.

just my 2pence worth...........

Yeah, I go along with that. It would be interesting to put it on the dyno with a standard bike.

I just wondered if anyone had done the intake tubes, as shown in the BBR notes. I don't want to lose midrange, for top end BHP.

:)

Common concensus seems to be that the larger intake tube makes no discernible difference. Shortening the airbox-to-injector-body tubes moves the power higher up the rev range.

Geoff,

Power ( and torque ) is a subjective thing.

the more money you are willing to spend determines how fast you go.
however - you've got a B*w - you don't really want to go THAT fast do you? , - what you really want is throttle response and torque.

air intake mods and free flowing silencer are what determines your starting points. - do this first.

After that its chips - turbo's etc - don't bother, its too much hassle for speed / gearing / money returns.

do the horn, stick a K&N in, y -piece and can - you're off - stop there IMO.

I have all the mods above but with the larger inlet stubs and a large inlet trunk.
Only slight improvement over standard and have run these mods for over 14k. Also have the lambda sensor disconnected (this helps stop the backfire when the throttle is shut)
The fuel setting are as for stage 3 tune wiith the link in the fuse box.
I have had no problem with the fueling and the rich running only occurs when I first start up.

Hi Geoff, I've done all the same mods as you listed but I've got a Superchip installed by the dealers, plus they changed the intake tubes for the larger bore ones. I was concerned about the fuelling so I had it dyno'd at Dynojet UK's HQ, near Preston & they found it was fine. Slightly rich in the midrange but ideal throughout the rest & nowhere was it running lean, which is what I was worrying about. I've scanned a copy of the printout.

did you get a 'before' version and whats the difference?

No, I didn't get a before because I wasn't interested in quantifying power or torque gains. I did it to confirm that the fuelling was OK, knowing that the improvements were there because I could feel them. As we already know, the bike spins up much quicker & pulls harder through the rev range with a y piece & Remus. Besides, the bike was standard beforehand & there are plenty of dyno charts around for std bikes. I saw one for the R1100S in Bike mag a few mths back which showed lower figs for the S than mine showed on the GS. Something like 64 ft-lbs & 81bhp. I'm happy enough with that.....:)

Hi Geoff,

Yeah I cut the intakes.
In all honesty I can't say it made a difference either way. I did the cut after I'd run with the chip for a while.

The biggest difference was ditching the Cat.
The pipe helped a little and sounded better.
I got the chip second hand off this board to ensure I had no lean running issues.
Intakes are about a tenner each - so its no big deal if you want to go back.

Contrary to the BBP instructions CUT BOTH SIDES.

I have run my 2000, 1150 with K+N, Y piece, Remus, Chip, and cut both tubes for 15 thou or so now, noticibly more go , but likes good fuel, ie optimax or super plus then she flys.

Do it, as has been said, you can buy new ones cheap enough if you don't like the result.
