Hi Folks,

Recently got my 1150gs back from repairer's after an off on Oct last year. She had a bit of a bash to the nearside and a nice slide down the road on its nearside.

Repairs done via insurer's, pleased with the work but haven't been able to ride her to make sure she run's fine due to injuries until today:blagblah

Only to find that at around 4k rpm (but not always) she seems to choke and die, possibly fuel starvation. Now I've put some new fuel in, tested, same. Undid fuel filler cap and tested again, still same.

She is also quite rattly, seems nosier than before and sounds like tensioner maybe? Now thats on the offside but could it have been damaged after the original impact and slide and then lying still in gear and running on its side with oil pouring out from a hole in the rocker cover on the nearside?

The repairers reckon they road tested it but I reckon that was just around the yard or block and didn't get the revs up much.
Now before I start to pull off the tank to check for any nipped hoses etc, is there 'owt else I should be looking at? I thought maybe cracked throttle body (from the crash) but surely it would just run badly all the time?

If it's not relatively easily fixed I'll be sending it back and they can sort it but I reckon they'll try and wriggle:(

Any advice appreciated:thumb2

Don't fiddle, phone them up, explain that you're only just fit enough to get back on it and have found a problem. Take it back. If it was repaired through your insurance company notify them as well.

They should have a record of the mileage when it went in for repairs so don't use it until sorted.

I'd like to know if the repairers are familiar with setting up boxer twins and what damage was caused during your tarmac interfacing.

BTW. Packer's quite right in suggesting it gets punted back to them.

I'd agree with the 'onorable gennelmen above me.....Don't muck about with it, punt it back and make sure it's done properly.

FWIW though, if it's a twin spark, I'd pull the coil pack on the side it's not running well on.....the symptoms (the rough running at 4k revs+ part anyway) sound like a degrading coil pack to me.

Emailed 'em last night & rang 'em today. They are willing to have another look but say that because it's got a stubby on, that's the cause:(

Told 'em it's been running fine with stubby for last 4 yrs and that they can take the original can with 'em and test it.

(Fanum, it's not a twin spark but .....spose could be coil related)

Gonna refrain from getting my hands dirty and let them sort it I think. They 'seem' competent enough, setup called Bikers Legal Defence or BLD

http://www.bldgroup.co.uk/bld-centres/brighouse.html

Has anyone on here had any dealings with them?

Been speaking to a bloke called Daniel who is a foreman there I think. Dunno who the technicion/mechanic was though.

Why, do you know the place or had dealings?

Update on this:mad:

Bike collected on Monday, received phone call on Tuesday, saying technician was unwilling to road test as back tyre below legal minimum!

I admit they were borderline (back in October when the accident happened) and was on my 'to do' list when I got it back, I have put precisely 37 miles on it since it was returned to me around Xmas after they road tested it.

Anyway, sensing I would get nowhere till new tyre was put on I authorised that and let them get on with looking at the rev/cutting out issue.

Received another call today to say that in their opinion the problem is not accident related. They say they've spoken to a BMW specialist (presumably Jeffries in Shipley and they agree!) THey now blame the noisy camchain and say that is causing the rev issue. How the feck does the camchain affect engine speed?

Now even with my very limited mechanical knowhow I would've thought that,

1. TPS/Potentiometer (same thing?) is a definite maybe to look at seeing as it's on the nearside where the impact occurred. Any tests they can do?

2. What about fuel pump/filter pipe? The tank was resprayed so possible that the pipe is split or the pump/filter has shifted. Can they do a fuel pressure test?

I don't want to get shirty with them, just want my bike back running normally as it was before the bump.

I have contacted Groupama (insurers) & am waiting for a callback.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated as I think I've got a battle on my hands.

I would stick to yer guns here because if it was running ok before, and its not now, it could eventually turn out to be something very expensive to fix thats not instantly obvious and you don,t want to get stuck with that this is wot you we pay our premiums for !!!!!!!
best of luck with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll be sticking to my gun's alright, just pissed off that I've gotta beat 'em over the head before they'll get their finger out.

Been without a (rideable) bike since Oct now and and am now fed up of using the car for work. Just wanna get out and ride:D

Moll Springs or Rainbow?

A message has now been left from my insurers offering to take bike to a garage of my choice for another look so a bit of progress. In the meantime I've emailed BLD asking them to check TPS/fuel line/pump and sideswitch.

So...if no progress from BLD I'll ask to get it to Moll Springs or Rainbow. Been pleased with work done at Moll Springs before so am leaning towards them. Anyone have anything to say about Rainbow as they're nearer to me but I've never used them:nenau

No personal experience ...

Anyone have anything to say about Rainbow as they're nearer to me but I've never used them:nenau

... but Rainbow get consistently favourable feedback from local users :thumb

Same symptoms as pulling the plug on the TPS, though probably a fault in the TB or further up the line.
