My Rt has had a service, valves, throttle balance etc but still surges like a tw*t.

It's fine when cold but horrendous when warm.

I haven't changed the fuel filter (it's done 30k) so what could it be. Can you disconnect the lambda sensor and see if it runs smooth (maybe the sensor is goosed). It has the pink CCP in.

I'm getting naffed off with this now and am close to giving up and selling the feckin thing. Feels like it is running out of fuel on a steady throttle at 80-90.

Please sort it for me chaps because I love the bike apart from the surge.

Repeat after me

GS intake Tubes

Remus

I think it's RC9yC4 plugs instead of the twin electrode ones sworn to work by the Merkins>>> Autolite 3923

Manufacturer...........Type..............Part Number

AUTOLITE ............spark plug...........3923

Champion Equivalent

OE039........1.92

RC9YC4......1.92

Doesn't seem to be an NGK x ref

Take the pink thing out. Throw it away. Dont replace it with anything .Try it. You may be surprised.

If no lucking pulling the CCP, Adjust the TPS to read around the 3.70 volt mark.

Thanks guys, tried pulling the CCP and makes no difference :(

I can't understand why the surging only happens when warm :nenau

I revved the bike up when it was warm and there was a definate stutter around 4-5k revs.

Will check TPS voltage tomorrow, remind me which colour wires to tap into??

Had a chat to St. Eptoe of the manor and it doesn't seem like it's the traditional surge problem of the Oilhead.

I have ordered a replacement coil and HT leads and a new fuel filter.

The only thing I can think is it's either that or water in the fuel.

Trouble is it only happens when warm, I would have thought the coils/ht or fuel issue would rear it's head up when cold also.

I'm stumped but I'll continue persevering for now.

I hope it's not the Hall Sensor :blast:blast:blast but I haven't seen any of the symptoms ie crazy rev counter, fuel pump cutting etc.

I had a similar problem with my R80RT years ago. It was the coils. They 'break down' under load when hot apprently.
No dont ask me what that means, just what I was told. And replacing the coils solved the problem.

Lambda sensor?

I bought a second hand 1150 from a dealer. It would surge and stutter at a constant 80. After a lot of faffing about it turned out to be the lambda sensor had gone

Hope this helps...

That's the next port of call.

It's bound to be the last thing I do :blast

Well of course it will be the last thing you do that cures it.
If you cure it, and then keep doing things, well then that would just be stupid :blast

That'll be the one :blast:blast:blast:blast:blast:blast

Feck feck feck feck feck. Shows how preoccupied with the whole thing that I should leave myself wide open to be made to look stupid.

Good job that man :thumb

Replacement coil, Ht leads, new fuel filter, disconnected Lambda sensor, checked throttle balance and set the TPS to .370v and guess what????

Still the fecking same :spitfire:spitfire:spitfire:spitfire:spitfire

At 80-85 it just feels like it's hunting a bit, do they all do this?? I'm getting really p*ssed off now. Anyone want to buy a lovely 30k mile RT :augie

When you did the TB balance did you set the valves and end float etc?...

Has the fuel consumption deteriorated since you've had the problem?.
If it is happening when the motor is warm, maybe one of the temperature sensors is telling the ECU that that the engine is still cold and pumping too much fuel in.The oil temp sensor/connector would be first place to look, followed by the air temp sensor.I've also got a spare used and untested lambda sensor if you're desperate.

Thanks fella. Having disconnected the lambda and it making no difference I don't think it's that.

I happen when it warms up?? That would suggest that one of the sensors is changing something switching it to running like poo at speed.

I guess there is a way of testing the sensors???

Many thanks for the offer of the sensor though. Will check the oil temp sensor connector and give it the magic wd40 treatment :D:D:D
