1150 speedo playing up

I was out yesterday riding about and my speedo started to play up, it has done it once before about a month ago. When accelerating from about 70-80 the needle went to about 130! at the same time you could hear quite a loud whirring from the clocks. I stopped, rolled the bike backwards about 2 feet and then all was well again. I take it its the actual speedo that's on its way out? if so, can they be repaired or am I looking at another one?

had same from mine ~ The inner cable snapped couple days later, assume it was v dry, sticking snd then twinging speedo up when catching up. anyway new cable cured it, £10.00 from BMW Southport.
