Thanks to Aidan,s tip I popped into a local exhaust manufacturer A44 ,told them what I wanted to try.
10 mins later he made a stubby, laser cut slots, perfect fit .well pleased and not much loader than with the can fitted.

Nice!

By the by - I realised the other day that all you actually need is an old catalyser box - cut the two 'intake' pipes off and you have 2 stub pipes. :)
(the flared section of the intake pipe is exactly the right diameter to go over the exhaust pipe from the catalyser box).

Anyone gone full Y-piece and don't want their catalyser box?

can someone confirm Yay or Nay that these stubby ext pipes on an r1150R do NOT burn the system panniers?....

There is no standard stubby, so that will depend on the length of the pipe and the point of exit for the gases. The answer is therefore yay and nay...

... and even then it’s a bit of a gamble. My mate had an 1100RS and added a cheap full-length end can he found on eBay. First time using the system panniers and it burned a hole in the bottom corner. His set up still had the cat on the bike too.

Happened to me with a y-piece and OE end can.
Never had any problems with a stub pipe.

If you get the right amount of bend in the end there's plenty of clearance under the pannier.
I've not done a long run with panniers on yet.
