Just had a 66,000 mile service on my 1150GS at Pidcock's Nottingham. The clutch is splipping and Pidcocks quoted a new clutch at £1,000 including parts and fitting. They explained in detail why it is so expensive but was wondering if anyone knew of somewhere reliable to get it done more cheaply. Spending a grand on a ten year old bike with high mileage seems daft on the other hand bar, the clutch, the bike is mechanically sound and there is no reason it won't continue for another 60,000 miles.

Any advice?

I'm halfway through doing mine at the moment , it took about 2 hours to strip down the rear of the bike completely as I also had an issue with the drive shaft (working at a leisurely pace).
I've cleaned everything off and checked it, for parts from Motorworks including a new clutch slave cylinder , full genuine clutch kit and a few other bits and bobs it will work out at about £360.

i live 10mins from pidcock yet i use rainbow i just bought a speed triple (pidcock are a triumph dealer) from stoke enough said :)

I've used Mikey at Biketec for most of my needs, what I like about him is he will tell me straight if he feels he can't do the job.

I've had a few quotations for work; the highest being £450 the lowest £420. This means it isn't worth my while to do the job myself if I have to pay £360 in parts.

My only other question is if anyone knows of any independent specialist BMW mechanics in the Birmingham/East Midlands area that are reputable?

Regards

Fergus

Jim Hill at Chilwell has just guestimated around £400 all in to do mine (1150 GSA). I stood and watched him do the 36K mile service on my bike and I really rate the work he's done.

It's going to be six weeks before I can organise the clutch refit; I'd be interested to see how he gets on with your clutch.

Mine won't be done until it fails. Touch wood, its ok at the mo', I asked Jim for a quote so that I can have the money ready if and when it does fail.
