1150gs Adventure fuel query

Hello all,
Odd (but probably obvious) question on 1150gs Adventure fuel quantities.
I always thought that the tank capacity was 30litres however...I always run my tacho in conjunction with my gauge. When the gauge reads empty and the light is on, I register about 260 miles done, however when I fill up, I can only ever get about 22 litres in the tank. Does this sound right?
I realise any fuel gauge is dubious at best but dont really want to just keep running and run out of juice on the motorway.
Does anyone have any reasonably accurate distance figures for this bike's fuel capacity?
It's a standard 1150gs Adventure, 04 plate, and I dont ride like a loon either!!

Its possible that u have the smaller tank on your bike,i had a gsa like this,large tank was an option on the early 02 bikes and the small tank an option on later ones,the smaller tank can be decieving to look at as well[see picts] as i though my bike had the large tank as well

on second thoughs not so sure as mine would only do around 200 miles on a tankful

You meqn your speedo not the tacho, tacho is the rev counter, save any confusion in future. I fitted an adventure tank to my1150 and have got 316 miles before filling up not much left I reckon. But if you see an adventure
tank and compare with yours you'll see the difference easily they are big.

I have only had mine a few months but have done just over 300 miles before refilling though I forget how much fuel I then put in.

I fill up with the light on showing empty at about the same mileage, normally get 26litres in so 4 in reserve. If your only getting 22 in at that mileage your doing well so i'd say you have the big tank.

... you can expect about 10 Miles/Litre, ridden more sensibly, about 10 Miles/Litre. The low fuel light is entirely dependent on how your float is set up and they do vary considerably. In the event that you do 'run out', lay the bike on its Right side for a moment and use the pool from the left lobe which the transfer tube won't collect

I can get anywhere between 260-320 mls from a tank.

I have a 54 plate ADV and it has the 31 ltr tank. The gauge is a bit 'hit & miss' but generally i fill up when no bars & light is on.

I did once chance it, carried on & done another 40 odd mls, then lost my nerve.....

Most ive ever got in is 29 ltrs, the fill is dependent on how quick you are/sidestand/centrestand etc.

I can get 31 ltrs in mine and have got over 300 miles on it on a motorway trip riding at 75 - 80 mph. If yours is a big tank it could be the float wire bent wrong. Why not carry a i ltr bottle of fuel with you and test it.

An Adv. should have the lobes linked via a fuel line under the tank. I have had as little as 400k to a tank and as much as 600k its all dependant on the R/wrist

Aussie is right, the big Adventure tank has the two sides connected under the tank, the standard tank doesn't.

About 10 miles per litre is also correct but ridden gently you can get a lot more. I've managed as much as 269 miles on a standard tank and then put 24 litres into it. I have drilled the filler neck and can brim the tank.

Carry a spare supply and run it till it dies. Remember how many miles you get after the light comes on for the future.

on my 2004 1150 GSA, orange light turn on at 270-300 miles and I try to fill up
max 35 miles later, I already put 31 liters in the tank.

Is that because the transfer pipe is in the wrong place or because the fuel doesn't transfer fast enough to keep up with demand?

Its not at the very bottom of the tank. You'll get maybe another half a litre. But that could be a 5 mile walk saved
