Hi

I've got a bleed nipple from a local auto factor. It has a pointy end - obviously designed to seat like a needle valve. Isn't this likely to damage the ball bearing? I didn't really want to remove the pipe fitment containing the ball bearing.

What does the inner end of the bleed nipple look like on the pukka OEM part? i.e where it touches the ball bearing.

Thanks
David

Take off the bit with the ball valve and the bleed nipple(if correct size - same as front calipers) screws straight into the joint left on the end of the pipe. Make sense? :)

You don't have to screw the nipple in far to release the fluid, just one turn is enough. :thumb

Thanks

Thanks guys

In the end I had to remove the valve attachment - the bleed nipple was too long to screw it onto the valve attachment. Filing the point on the nipple meant the diameter of the (blunt) end was too wide to engage the valve ball bearing.

I didn't remove the bleed nipple and reattach the valve attachment 'cos I didnt want to introduce any air. Next time I'm on to Motobins I'll enquire about the appropriate bleed nipple

Typical of my luck. I've decided to bleed the clutch on my 2003 1150. I've read on this site :clap about the blanking off grub screw seizing up. So I have on occassions brushed ACF50 onto it.

Low & behold it unscrewed. Decided to see if the ball bearing would be easy to move, pressed down hard, nothing happened, then it opened suddenly. Now it won't seal up, fluid is dribbling out:thedummy:blast

Should have left it alone.:blast

I read that the correct bleed nipple is M10 x1mm pitch, and that this is the same one to use if the adaptor with the ball bearing arrangement is removed. I haven't removed the adaptor yet, but it looks as if it is a smaller thread than M10?
Please reassure me, before I go out & buy an M10 bleed nipple that it is the correct size. I assume that this will be safe to leave in place of the ball bearing arrangement fitting?

God, AKA Steptoe posted this, so I've probably answered my own question.

Unscrew the whole unit, and leave it in boiling water - you might then be able to get the grub screw out.

Thats what happens when they're left for the bmw recommened 2 years inbetween clutch bleeding. Bleed it yearly and you shouldn't have it seize in place.

Or just do as tufty says, unscrew the wholeunit and replace with a normal bleed nipple. Which you should have anyway, because thats what you screw into the unit to bleed it

stripped threads in mine. You can unscrew and replace it completely part number 32722333158, While your'e waiting for the part just screw a 10 mm bleed nipple or grub screw into the fitting fixed to the end of the pipe.
OK, so it was Tufty.
