1150gs - fitting 17" alloy wheels

got the wheels, the rear is 5" which normally would take a 170 60 17 tyre.


question is anyone tried to fit a 180 55 17 tyre and how did you get on? i ask as i have a set of tyres sitting in the garage and would prefer to make use of them on this bike than have to shell out for another pair/rear tyre!

You can do it, but it isn't recommended because pinching the tyre up means the contact patch actually ends up smaller than if you'd fitted the 170.

Like every bloke knows, that extra half inch makes all the difference...
