Hello,

While waiting for the new HT leads ( which both showed open circuit ) for my 1150GS, 2001, 50K miles, single spark plug, decided to check ignition coil resistance. Found it slightly off as per manual ( 0.5 room temp and 7.5K cold ).

Are these measurements acceptable or my ignition coil on its last leg?

thanks.

How does the bike run. If it runs well, leave it alone, if it splutters, change the cause of the problem.

If you go looking for issues, you are sure to find them, stay blissfully ignorant and they come along very rarely.

Flipfly! How did bike run with both HT leads shot??? :D

Actually, surprisingly well.. no surging, no backfiring, always started well cold or hot, just very little pulling power after 4000 revs. I just thought it was the character of the engine as I have never ridden "healthy" R1150. Can't wait to install new HT leads ;)

You sure the ht leads were 'open circuit'?
Depending on the type, some show a high resistance.
All perfectly normal.

That sounds about right, they should be .7 to .8 cold, and the leads should be .5 ohms

Based on experience of modern bikes, rather than knowledge of the 1150 specifically!

Flipfly, I hope you are wrong because at the moment I couldn't win drag racing with probably 90% of all cars :D

AberdeenAngus, give people with low post number at least some credit :) ! First HT lead was showing "open circuit" but I managed to have some resistance reading by twisting it. Second, was showing some reading but by slightly twisting it I could get "open circuit".
