Hi all,

I have had my GS lying up for a few months unfortunately I have had to keep it outside with a cover on it and now I have put the battery back in it and got it insured Im having a bit of an issue!

The bike is only running properly on the left cylinder with the right side very intermittent.

Also when I turn on the lights the indicator lights on the dash are both coming on along with the high beam indicator.

Would anyone have any idea where I should start looking for the fault?

Im not great with electrics being colour blind doesnt exactly help :blast

Would it be a bad earth somewhere? if so where would be a likely culprit?

Any help at all would be much appreciated.

Dave..........

Check your right hand throttle cable is seated properly - often gets knocked out when removing the tank.

Even if ...

... the throttle cable is only slightly out, it will cause 'rough running'. Having done it before, I thought I had seated mine but the bike just wasn't running right, checked again and pushed the cable firmly down and 'bingo' normal service was resumed :blast

Sounds like you have the very rare R1150GSECO. A favourite amongst yoghurt botherers and those persuaded to various shades of green. This version was quite rightly a failure. BMW did not realise till too late that making a 2 cylinder opposed engine drop a cylinder for economy and emmissions reasons was not a good idea. Most like yours where built for the left hand drive market and drop the right cylinder but a few survive from the limited right hand drive markets and these drop the left cylinder.
Hope this helps.:beerjug:

.........

In the wiring loom that runs from the instruments.

The earths encased in the loom are all crimped together and corrode and giving just the type of problem you have

It was the throttle cable coming unseated indeed!!

I havent gotten around to the wiring loom yet but that is where I will have a good look first of all.

Something that has now started is the bike wont now rev past 3.5 :blast when the throttle cable was unseated it revved right to the redline and now one cylinder cuts out past 3.5 but below that it runs fine, any ideas?

Thanks for the help guys.

Which side won't rev past 3.5k - the L/H side controls the fuelling.

Another thing is check both ends of your throttle cables are seated - at the throttle body end and the junction box end.
