I currently ride an 1150GS but am considering a GSA all my riding is on road around the uk and europe, approx 8k miles a year. Should i keep my 38k miler or get a late low mileage 1150GSA. Pro's and Con's Please.

Thanks

Yours looks great, but after having had 3 1150GS's...............my present 1150GSA rides better mainly because of the lower 6th gear

I had the same thoughts a while back.

Ended up buying a 650GS to off road instead.

Now have the dilema of whether to keep the 1150 :blast:blast:blast:blast

What you really want to know is "Do you guys approve of me wanting to change my bike for the sake of it" :D:D:D:D

Yours looks good. ADV tank will do more miles, but I personally feel ready to stop after 200 miles in the saddle anyway so no hardship and the ADV tank wouldn't be needed.

Extra travel in the suspension would be nice when I off road the old girl, but I do alright at the mo.

I'm fast enough and comfy enough on the standard 1150, can't justify the price to change (and mine has 62,000 on it).

I've just spent all the brownie points I accumulated over christmas (and a couple of grand) to change from an 01 Gs to an 04 GsA. I'll let you know in a couple of weeks whether it was worth it! Damn but the aluminium panniers are huge!

The GSA1150 is in my opinion a different motorcycle to the GS1150. I owned a GS1150 for 5 years then bought a GSA1150 almost 1 and a half years ago now.

The GSA1150 is heavier, more planted, feels more "weighty" around the middle and is supremely more comfortable, better specced, has superior suspension and feels superb on the road. I loved my GS1150 and still rate it highly but the GSA is in so many respects a better motorcycle.

I have ridden many motorcycles since, including the really superb GSA1200, but I always come back to the GSA1150 and its unique riding experience.

I would really like to own both a GSA1200 and keep my GSA1150, but that would require some forward planning.

Back on topic, I'd suggest you test ride a GSA1150 for an hour and see for yourself. A nice one is a pleasure to own in ways I can't really describe.

Good luck whatever you decide.

I'd get a really long test drive on a GSA before you decide. It would be a disaster to sell such a nice GS and then decide you've made a mistake.:spitfire:blast::forry:tears:tears:tears:

Last year I had the hankering for an 1150GSA and bought an extremely nice example off this site (03, non abs because I didn't like the servo brakes) but managed to keep hold of my trusty standard 1150. I agree it's a totally differnt bike to the standard and on a trip to Italy (Stelvio etc) I found the GSA did not handle as well as my 1150, and I preferred the higher GS 6th gear on the motorways. So much so that when I returned I sold it and kept my standard.

Just an alternative point of view to others on this site. As I said at the beginning....get a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG test drive, compare them back to back and then decide which one is more to your personal riding style and liking.

All IMHO of course.

I did 60,000 on my 1150GS and now have an 1150GSA.

Have to say that I wish I had kept the old bike.

Was worth half as much so it didn't matter if I dropped it, was simpler with only single plug system (cant feel the difference)

Prefered the higher top gear as I do lots of distance work.

Economy was better and it was a lot more powerful.

Can hardly touch the ground even though I have a 34 inch leg.
so would not take it off road:blast

Fill ya boots change it.
If I could have found a new 1150GSA I would have had another one.:mmmm

Thanks for all your comments, i think i'll buy one and keep what i've got for a while, for what it's worth it's not worth rushing to sell.

I'll keep you all posted.

Tim

Timmy,

I think there is no question you should definately by one as this would help counteract the sad fact that you own a citreon Xantia with a toe bar and built in bowls cupboard. Plus I just bought one so you are contractualy obliged to do the same. Love ya, Burge.

GS v GSA

Keep what you've got, get an adventure tank for it this really does give you a good 300miles plus range and also keeps the wind off you legs quite well.
Don't worry about the colour of a second hand tank just get a new baglux
tank cover looks good.

I've taken the plunge!

8.5k miles all the boxes and it truely is a minter, just need to pick it up on sunday and get an outstanding recall done..
