1150GS year 2000 v 2003

I've had two earlier single sparks and my current twin spark 1150. Next one will be a single spark non ABS with factory heated grips - best of the bunch IMO. The coil sticks on the twin spark are a known point of failure and expensive to replace. In addition and as mentioned above the later bikes feature servo brakes which can also fail and are much more complex to service - although the entire system can be removed if required. Final point which is a minor annoyance is the later front caliper design doesn't include a hole to drift the pins out which means that caliper pins can seize solid.

Keep It Simple IMO.

Not quite sure how you come to the conclusion that the servo brakes are much more complex to service. Yes you have to remove the tank to gain access but that is less than 5 mins to remove and refit. Changing fluid and bleeding are easy as the servo motors do the work for you. As has already been pointed out regular fluid changes (which should be done anyway) greatly reduce the chances of failure. Other than that what else is there to service on the servo system that makes it complex.

My 30 plus years of working on Citroen cars has taught me that people often use the word complex for things they simply don't understand.

the other bike is a private sale.

Yep, the 2003 one is my old one!!!!!!
Owned it from brand-new and traded it in on 1st March for a new Moto Guzzi Stelvio NTX.

Regardless of what anyone says, the servo ABS never gave me a moments problem and the annual brake fluid change was about 30-minutes labour at my local BMW independant (MotoScott near Luton). The servicing history and all reciepts are with the bike.

Downside of the single spark.........the crapy spark plug covers, washed the bike and lost the left hand one whilst out for a ride :blast:blast:blast

Anyone got a spare please :bow:D
