1150gsa running rough ,red hot headers

Right just checked the coils, started the bike pulled the left secondary lead off the plug and the bike stopped, did the same to other side and the bike kept running
Tried swapping them over and it did the same on the other side, IS it the stick coils then?
How much to repair and do I get 2 or 1

... not cheap, and they are non-repairable; on the bright side you've solved your problem.

1150 owners invariably keep one as a spare so try asking in the 'wanted' section, you might get lucky, otherwise they are £76 + post from Motorworks

Check the other one it may be fine; they get water in them and start to rust from the inside out swelling up as they do so.

Well done!

It had to be something simple, it usually is with these.

My advice is to check the connectors thoroughly for green. If they are corroded it will cause a problem. In my honest opinion i'd buy only 1. As you have experienced you know they will run like shite, but they do run when 1 goes.

Good luck.

Just to muddy the waters, I had those symptoms on my 1150 and it turned out to the be the throttle position potentiometer.

The good news was that it was a quick fix.

I dont know if this will apply to a BMW boxer but anyway -

When a car engine is cold the O2 sensor value is ignored and it runs at the default fuel rate (rich). When the engine warms-up, the O2 sensor values are used to correct the fuel/air ratio. If the sensor is reading within range but too low (i.e. faulty but not completely broken) the engine will run rich.

76 quid isnt that bad if its your only problem ......... i have had similar problems and swapping the stick coils solved it thanks to the nice people at James Sherlocks.

Oh and having come from sports bikes the panzers dont like being crashed down the gear box while hard on brakes, dont like clutchless upshifts at high revs and dont try fast changes of directions pushing footrests unless the shock is a bloody good un....they get a bit bouncy :D

Lol yeah me too, but still ride my 'other' bike Benelli Tornado and sometimes I forget myself chucking my ADV around on the TKC80. Found myself trying to get my knee down the other morning. That woke me up :D
