Has anyone else seen this happen to the grey material on their 1150 GSA seat?

My bike is a 2005 1150GSA in silver with the grey and red seat. In the last few weeks what looks like the seam glue has cooked in the sunlight and is showing through the grey material of the seat. It now has a nasty brown stripe all the way around the edge of the seat. very unsightly and no idea how to remove it.

I spoke to a very "helpful" guy at my local dealer who said "oh they all do that eventually" Obviously not BMW's problem "£200 for a new seat please"

Can anyone advise what the problem is?
Any ideas how to solve it or remove the brown stripe?
Any recommendations as to a cheaper way to re-cover the seat?
Any recommendations for upholsterers that can do this?

I want to keep the bike as original as possible so won't be looking at Bagsters or Sargent's etc.

It is as your ‘helpful’ man says - they do all seem to do that. The only option is recovering and any of the recommended upholsters on here will be able to help. Personally having had 2 do the same I don’t let it bother me.

Mine was pretty grim when I bought the bike, I found that Sdoc2000 Power Gel cleaner took the edge right off the stain - but didn't get rid of it. Nice side effect of a good product, I thought. :beerjug:
